Thanks for being so present everywhere in shopping centers, on the streets, in advertising.
And for charging me another 35 bucks for customs when I reveive a pre-paid package for a soft' I'm supposed to "save on while it's the time" after having already paid 20USbucks for shipment.

I always downloaded my programs except VV3 which I received in a BOX *****whitout any bad surprise***** at the time. But it was Sonic Foundry at that time (sigh...)
In my mind, sony, you just made a step towards the "Adobe ethics". And you'll notice I still put a capital letter on "Adobe"...
Thanks again for your "special offer".

And thanks for erasing this post that was there a few weeks ago ("Sony wake up!" or something like that...) so I can just pile up on the other comments instead of creating a new post.
What an example of marketing.

So beware Canadian buyers: customs are waiting for you since sony can't open an office in such a tiny country (like a lot of other countries they're SO present in).

Why ? Because Acid is a drug and no matter how the price raise, we still need our fix.

The more I use this software, the more I compare this so called "tool" that I like to call "Instrument", the more I understand its name.

I remember that shipping to Canada wasn't as expensive when SoFo owned this software, as you mentioned.
Have you tried going through a broker? Have the box shipped free to the broker's American address, and they'll charge a minimal fee for taking it across.
I've done this for bicycle parts from California.

Was that 35 bucks US or 35 Canadian? It sounds a little strange. I got Acid sent to Japan and there were no extra fees this time. It seems like Russian roulette regarding customs as I do remember having to pay fees sometimes even when Sonic Foundry was in control.

Le problème, c'est que si ils avaient un point de vente en France, le prix en serai augmenté avec la marge du distributeur local, et du revendeur. Donc au final cela reviendrai plus ou moins au même prix.

The issue is, that if they had a local distributor in other countries, the price would be raised up with importation and reseller's profit margin. So finally it would cost almost the same price.

How is this Sony's problem? It's Canadian customs, charging you the extra money. Are you expecting Sony to pay the customs charge for you? Customs import/export policies change on a regular basis. So what if you bought software and the charge was cheaper when it was owned by Sonic Foundry. That was well over 2 years ago, and customs import/export taxes have changed in that time. I have seen them change on a 6 month basis.

If you have a problem with it, then purchase the software in a downloadable version, where currently customs doesn't have their hand out....yet. Sony is an international company, your Sony DVD player, which was probably designed in Japan and made in China also was charged with an import tax when it was shipped to the local retail store in Canada. Only you didn't see this charge because it was placed on top of the retail store's selling price.

If you want to complain, then send a letter to your Canadian government because they're the one's in charge of this. One of the reasons for custom charges is to persuade you as a Candian, to buy Canadian products, so the Canadian economy doesn't go down the toilet. Is Sony suppose to have a local distribution center in every country? If they did, then you would see the company go down the tubes very quickly in attempting to pay for these resources to save you 35 bucks. Even if they did have a Sony distribution center in Canada and the product was made in the U.S. When Sony U.S. ships the product to Canada to the distribution center, it get's a customs tax put on it for every unit sent.

My wife is from Brazil, we bought a couple Sony Playstations and shipped them to Brazil as Christmas gifts. Along with paying shipping charges, we had to pay Brazil customs charges. With the shipping and customs charges it basically doubled our purchase price.......oh well, that's the way it is and I sure as hell didn't contact Sony and blame them.

Get a grip and face reality.

As Rednroll said, the trick seems to be to purchase the download only version. But if you then request the optional content CD, this has no value on the commercial invoice so no Customs duty is applicable.

At least, thats what happened to me.

Thanks for the economics lecture.
How come, then, I can usually buy stuff here in Canada cheaper or at the same price than in the US, taxes/rate exchange included? Got an answer for that one? I bet if Sony opened a distrubutor locally, the same would happen.
My complaint is about *bad surprise*. If I hadn't had a "FedEx 20$Us for Canadian orders" box to *check* when I ordered (figuring out everything was included), I wouldn't complain. But I returned to these pages after and noticed this time it's like insurance companies contracts: you really have to read the small characters at the bottom of the page... kind of things I like.
My mistake (happy? I admit! )
