In the Record dialog, what do you have the Record Device set to? If it’s the Microsoft Sound Mapper, then what record devices are enabled in the Windows Volume Control applet? Make sure your input device isn’t muted. What type of sound card are you using? I little more information may help us debug the problem. ~jr |

I assume you are trying to do Audio recording and not MIDI recording. If you don’t know what sound card you are using then you are probably using the built-in motherboard sound. They way you determine this is to go into: Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab You can select your default device for Sound playback, Sound recording, and MIDI music playback. The drop-down list will show you all the devices in your PC (which for most people is just one). To check that your input is not muted and to set the record volume, use the Volume Control in Windows. You can bring it up using: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control 1. In the Volume Control, Select Options > Properties 2. Under Adjust volume for select the Recording radio button 3. Under Show the following volume controls: make sure the input you are using is checked 4. Press OK to close the options and return to the Volume Control You should now see all the volume controls for the inputs you selected. Make sure the one you are using has the volume up fairly high. Also make sure the Select checkbox is checked for the input you are using. For example: If you are using Line In but you have Microphone checked as selected, then you are not going to get any signal from Line In. In ACID do the record monitors show signal when you play and just not record it? ~jr |

Oh. I didn’t understand you original post. I thought you couldn’t hear what you were recording but you actually can’t hear the other tracks while recording. And this use to work? With the exact same hardware? That’s strange. Normally, I would say the problem is that your sound card may not be full-duplex. Meaning, it cannot record and playback at the same time. But if this use to work with this soundcard, then that’s probably not the problem. ~jr |

No, I don’t think anything is muted. If the song plays fine except when you record, then somehow your sound card is acting like its in half-duplex mode instead of full-duplex mode. I don’t know what may have caused this or how to fix it (other than buying a new soundcard). I would contact Sony support and see if they have any ideas. Also think of anything you may have done to make this stop working (i.e., upgrades, new software, etc.) You might want to contact your PC manufacturer and see if they can shed any light as to why your sounds card can’t record and playback at the same time. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. ~jr |
