Is there any card that would be equal or better than this card with a 1394 connection? I went on Echo site but unfortunately, the 1394 section concerning their cards has got a "coming soon" tag... Any other companies that you would suggest? What about the Edirol FA-101 ? ?? o_o ?? |

MOTU has a whole bunch of Firewire boxes. I'm assuming you're talking about an external box and not something that plugs into your computer's bus. You don't emntion whether you're running a laptop or a desktop. To a certain extant that will drive what you get. If you're working with a laptop that has 6 pin Firewire I/O, than the MOTU Traveler would probably work for you. Jack |

Oops... Portability is a concern. External box to be used with both laptop outside and desktop at home. |

The MOTU Traveler was made for just what you intend to use it for (field and home). You just have to be able to power it from the FW port if you don't want to carry around an external battery or power supply for it. BTW, the external power supply is a piece to be ordered separately; the Traveler doesn't come with one. There are rack mount ears that come with the piece, but you don't have to mount them if you don't need them. MOTU touts this box as being able to fit under most laptops. Go to their website http://www.motu.com/ and check it out. Jack |

I wouldn't hesitate to put this card on my desk at home but for the road, I'm looking for something more compact like a "half-rack" and under in size.I'm trying to find something that I can easily carry in airports. It's mainly for "dumping" purposes from DAT to laptop right in the middle of nowhere and, at home, to record music tracks one intrument at a time so I don't really need more than 2 inputs. Having a few outputs for surround is welcomed, though, even if I'm not yet into the "surround world"... : ) |
