Okay, where are all of the computer savy people. There's got to be someone with an answer.

Control Panel>Folder Options>File Types>set the application there.
If that doesn't work since it's a hardware callout, remove your 1394 card in your Control Panel>System>Hardware Manager/Device Manager.

pjrey, the quick answer is yes and these are very useful, I think simple, introductions to firewire . .. helps me:

I use the 4-pin connector [ YUCK! - why 4 tiny pins? ] if I need to access my camera's output. I also have my "workhorse" PAnasonic DV deck that I throw my miniDVs at for Capture into Vegas, or wherever. Nowadays I try and avoid using my Camera's 4-pin as much as possible!

Best regards,

Grazie

I have found the answer, and for those who care here is the procedure.

With the ADVC-100 unit on, look in the system tray (lower right section of the taskbar) for the icon that says something like "Digital Video Device" or whatever. Click on that icon and the popup-box appears allowing changes.

To simply but Explorer is like a maze and unless you mark your trail you'll get lost, but I have found my way now. Thanks for those who have responded.
