Capture with Canopus and JVC S-VHS Deck - Info

I have followed this forum for a while regarding analog capture with the Canopus ADVC-100. Like others, I have experienced difficulties obtaining smooth captures from an analog deck. Typically, the resulting capture is jittery with much audio popping. The problem varies between source tapes as well between capture runs against the same tape.

My particular hardware is:
PC: Dell Dimension 4100, 512 MB, 933 MHz, IBM 60GB OS drive (writes at 19.6 MB/s), Western Digital 120GB Capture Drive (writes at 41.6 MB/s)
Deck: JVC HRS-9800U S-VHS

Through much trial and error I have managed to trace the problem to the TBC (Time Base Corrector) circuitry of the JVC deck. The TBC works great when staying in the analog domain (to a TV or another deck), however, it is obviously doing something that the Canopus does not like. Disabling the TBC has resulted in consistently good captures...even from source tapes that were previously causing me much grief.

Hopefully, this will help someone else with similar equipment.
