Subject:Acid 5 RW to Sonar 4 :(

Hello,

Still can't get Sonar 4 and Acid Pro 5 to rewire together. Here's what I'm doing, I start Sonar with just a basic setup and my Radium 49 Midi keyboard turned on, then I add Acid with the synth rack in Sonar 4, then, add some loops in either program, and no sound and no transport in either program. I have a Delta 10/10 LT, and a Delta 2496 DIO linked together in the mixer program that came with the sound cards. I've tried surround setups, and just stereo, and tried WDM, and ASIO drivers. HELP!

BTW: Acid rewires with Fruity Studio 4 OK

Edit: I'm also getting this error when closing sonar after closing Acid:
D:\Projects\rewire\ReWireDLL\Portable\ReWireDLL.cpp(99):VERIFY Failure
Also when I hit play in Sonar I get an error saying the the sound files may not be compatible with the output device, or at least I think that's what it said.
One more thing is, I have to reset my audio settings back to classic wave device in Acid after trying to rewire to Sonar, because it goes back to MS Sound Mapper by it self.

Have you been able to get any rewire slave app to work in SONAR4?

This SONAR 4 error message is confusing:

"D:\Projects\rewire\ReWireDLL\Portable\ReWireDLL.cpp(99):VERIFY Failure"

Do you have SONAR 4 installed on your D drive, instead of the default C drive? Why is it looking to the D drive for a ReWireDLL? Kinda odd.....

Something is not setup correctly in SONAR 4, I suspect. I have been successfully using SONAR 4 & ACID Pro 5 in rewire mode on both my desktop DAW and portable laptop with no problems.

Hello,

No I have Sonar installed on the default installation location. I don't have anything on D: drive exept for storage, all my music folders are on E: drive, Sonar Projects folders are on E: drive too. So I don't understand it either. I don't even have a directory on D called \Projects\ so I don't know where the error gets this info. I was able to get it to work once before I thought, but not sure. I will keep trying.

See ya, Rockitglider

If you look closely, you’ll see its not complaining about the ReWire DLL itself. Its throwing an uncaught exception on line 99 in a CPP file (C++ program) and the path you are seeing is the directory of the build machine at Cakewalk that compiled that particular module.

"all my music folders are on E: drive, Sonar Projects folders are on E: drive too"

"E" Drive.. are you using an external drive? I agree with the others ,something is "odd" either with your computer or the installation of sonar etc,,,,

If I had to guess (and I am ;-)) I’d say there is a driver incompatibility issue between the ReWire drivers in SONAR 4 and ones ACID Pro 5.0 on your PC. I only have SONAR 2.2 XL (I’m waiting for my copy of SONAR 4 to arrive) but when I installed Tracktion it asked me if I wanted to use its version of the ReWrire DLL or ACID’s version and I selected ACID’s version because it was newer and it has been working fine. (both with SONAR 2.2 XL and Tracktion)

I would contact SONAR support and give them that error message so one of their developers can see what’s happening at line 99 in that C++ program.

D:\Projects\rewire\ReWireDLL\Portable\ReWireDLL.cpp(99):VERIFY Failure

This is an error msg reported by the debug code in the ReWire dll.

This usually indicates some bizarre shut down issue between the host and the device. It typically indicates that the connection between ACID and the host is broken, though there is no consistant reason for this.

The only time I have seen ACID and SONAR not communicate transport is when SONAR is having problems with audio sample rates or bit depths. This happened a couple of times for me and there was never a clear indication as to the cause. A change of which drivers SONAR was using would fix the problem - or simply changing the sample rate that SONAR was using.

Could you locate

rewire.dll in your windows directory? (Do a search as there may be multiple copies floating around.

Do a properties on all the copies and look at the version. If you could post back here as to the version, this could prove useful.

Thanks
Peter

Hello Peter,

Thanks for the help, When I get home from work I will check this, and yes I was getting an error when starting playback in Sonar that the sample rate may be incorrect, but changing the sample rate and driver type didn't help. I'll get back to you.

One more question:

Are you launching ACID when ReWired by clicking the "Show Properties" button in SONAR or by launching ACID manually?

Hello Peter,

I start Acid in Sonar by double clicking on the Acid name in the synth rack window.

The versions of rewire.dll I have are,
Rewire.dll 1,5,0,76 9/1/04 C:\Windows|System32
Rewire.dll 1,4,7,74 4/7/03 C:\Windows\System
Rewire.dll 1,4,7,74 1/6/04 C:\Program Files\FLStudio4\System\Plugin\Rewire

I also have
P5Rewire.dll
Dr08Rewire.dll
ACIDRewire.dll
FLReWire.dll

I hope you can help me with this, and Thanks Much.

Hello,

Peter, Should I over write the other two with the current version, or does this not matter? Why are the other two in the other directories?

Thanks, Rockitglider

The ReWire SDK unfortunately doesn't clearly specify where the ReWire.dll should reside. The Propellerheads state that it should be in system32. The copy in system should at least be renamed to

rewire.foo

or some other name.

The copy located in FL's dir should be left alone as FLStudio may need this for some reason.

We are still unable to reproduce your problems with SONAR and ACID 5. I have contacted Cakewalk to see if they can reproduce your problem.
