What computer to build?

My 2.2 p4 is overdue for upgrade. Currently using DV Storm/eduis as well as Vegas 5 but the time has come to settle on Vegas exclusively. However, I would like as near real time as possible (which is the only plus of edius.)

Thinking of building a dual zeon (2.8?) with 1GB memory I fancy using a zeon m/board but have mainly used gigabyte before.

All experience and specific ideas would be very welcome -- thanks in advance

Well i would like to offer my opinion, but first let me say everyone in this forum is so helpful to each other already.

ok so the system i built is:
asus board (dont know the part # offhand)
intel northwook 3.8ghz
3 gb (6x512mb) dual channel ram low latency ($300 a gig!!!!)
ati radeon 9800
plextor 8x dual layer internal dvd +- r/rw
as far as hard drives go (in order by ide chain)
system board ide chains
1: 40gb drive (system only) and an 80 gig drive (program files folder)
2: 2x 250gb ata133 drives
system board ide raid chains:
1: 2x 120gb ata 100
2: none yet
pci ide ata133 card (maxtor)
1: removeable drive bay with 2 250 gig drives to fit into bay 1 at a time
2: plextor dvd burner

now with all that system you'd think id have it rockin
well your right, altho no matter how big a system i put behind vegas i can slow it down.
my last project had 17 channels of video, 5 channels of audio and over 500GIGABYTES of input data
it only took it about 26 hours to render......
it was a 45 minute video......

i believe its the pan cropping and track motion that takes all the time

seriously you should SEE the video i made tho, its worth every 45 minutes of your life.

Thanks for that -- I video shows and 2hrs is usual. Cropping and panning and color correction are always there usually 6 channels and 4 audio. Guess it would still be slow. Would a dual processor m/c help?
