Posted by: tchrome Date:12/13/2004 8:59:57 PM I'm using SF 6, and whenever I try to re-save a WAV file OR convert a WAV to an mp3, I get an error message about file compression size, the file reopens and has GAPS OF SILENCE at the beginning and end of the file. I am trying to eventually burn a continuous mix so this is ruining everything I'm trying to do. I've played with the SF settings a hundred times and nothing makes a difference. (Even if I manually crop out the silence gaps after the fact and then re-save the file, SF puts the gaps back in there when I save!!) I've made and burned mixes before relying heavily on SF, and never had this problem. I'm on WindowsXP running SF 6.0 Anyone have this happen to them? Anyone know what I should do? There is no way to eliminate it with Sound Forge. There are tools available which can "shrink" the header and footer file space, to make the gap (moment of silence) virtual invisible. Your not doing anything wrong, it is just the nature of mp3. GL

Reply by: tchrome Date:12/14/2004 1:16:14 PM Every time I go to resave a WAV or convert a wav to mp3 I get this message in SF: "The file has been saved in a compressed format. The sound of the file may have changed due to compression. Reopening the file may allow you to hear any changes that have occured. Would you like to re-open the file now?" After I click YES, the file reappears, now with the GAPS I mentioned before at the beginning and end. Making mixes previously, I have never gotten this message and never had the gaps appear. I have tried changing preferences and settings in SF to get this error to stop happening, but i can't find where to change it. Anyone recognize this error and know how to correct it? Anything to do with a slightly older version of SF and XP, or anything like that??
