Subject:Constant volume?

Hello all,
I have a lot of audio tracks that seem to be recorded at different volume levels and I would like to rerecord them or adjust the volume levels so that they are consistent from one track to another.

I don't want to change the way that the audio sounds, at least not yet, I just need the volume adjusted first.

I know that Sound Forge has a "Normalize" option, but I don't know enough about audio tracks so I can make the right choices for the tracks.

Is there any way that this can be done in bulk/multiple tracks at once?
Or
Should I be using different software to accomplish what I want?

Any advice is greatly appreciated,
ziggy2004 ;-)

You could try the Normalize in RMS mode but it won't work as good as your ears.

or you could try Adobe Audition (different software). It has a "group waveform normalize" comand that allows you to load all the songs , automatically analyse each and set the RMS loudness (mid frequency weighted) of the whole batch to some sort of average level. I 've been asking for something similar in Sound Forge for a long time , nothing so far...

Doesn't Wave Hammer do pretty well the same thing? I use it to "normalize" NAT sound and inexperienced narrators VOs all the time...

BTW: I got Adobe Audition with my Matrox RT X100 card...gave up on it after about twenty minutes. Might be a good tool but I couldn't work up the motivation to delve into it.

Pb,
If you mean to say Wave Hammer does Group Waveform Normalize, the answer is certainly no.
In the latter you load, say 16 songs, and it gets the whole batch processed, to the same RMS (mid frequency weighted) volume, ready to burn an equal volume CD straight in one run. Wave hammer processes one file at a time and you have to sellect the RMS volume you want to try (a lot more work to do)....

WOuld that Batch Processor that came ot with SF 6 do the sam ething?

I confess I have not done a lot of CD Mastering; I mostly do all the audio editing with SF and Vegas for our AVID editor.

Nope, though it batch processes, you have to select and give the volume level , which means YOU have to find the "average" RMS of the whole batch (Adobe Audition does that automatically). On top of that, Adobe Audition does the avarage based on mid frequencies (i.e. vocal frequency) which generally is what you want...
