This library would be a good one to get:

Also, powerFX.com has loops you can purchase individually.

To add to what everyone's said, make sure you keep an eye out every month via ACID Pro's Get Media feature. It has free loops available every month for registered users—loops that didn't make the CD they're featured from but are equally as good. I've seen some acoustic guitar loops featured here and there this past year.

I agree with jumbuk, the Songwriter's Acoustic Guitar Companion, is a great 24bit, double-disk set, of essential chord patterns, some strummed, others picked, even single chords in various keys & tempos. I highly recommend it and it is a good value. Truth be told, I am a guitar player, but sometimes I can get a little lazy too, and it can be faster & easier to drop in a pristine 24-bit, I-IIm-IV-V7 guitar chord progession, in the key of A, @ 100BPM, than to do it myself. :)

Especially when using an app like ACID Pro.

Another interesting, but complimentary collection, is the Sonic Excursions for Acoustic Guitar, it's also, double-disk & 24-bit.

Alternatively, consider doing your guitar loops yourself without playing guitar...

There's this VST plug-in called RealGuitar, and although I haven't tried it myself, I heard/read it produces convincing guitar sounds. If you're using guitars mainly in the background, RealGuitar could suit your needs even better, I reckon.

The plug-in costs $ 149, but there is a demo version.

Also worth a look may be Rhythm'n'Chords by the same company (MusicLab) - it's cheaper ($ 69) and it's built with background strumming in mind - although with the current version there's only a few patterns and you'd have to buy additional packs to get more. Again, you can download a trial version.
---EDIT: Rhythm'n'Chords seems to be a midi-only tool, helping you create patterns that are typical of backround guitars. These can be played through any midi instrument (such as RealGuitar :-)). That's what I found out in five minutes - no guarantees here...

Hello,

I have Real Guitar and it is a good plug, and sounds very convincing. About the acoustic loops, does this library come with all acoustic loops or are there tochno and electronica mixed in as well? I read in the description that there were only 200 meg of acoustic loops, Is this the case or are they all (Both Disks) acoustic guitar? If anyone knows please let me know.

Thanks, Rockitglider

The 200 Mb is new additional material in the extended version, on top of the original. Plus, they have added two "premium" project examples which presumably include bass, drums etc. I don't actually have the library, so I can't confirm this, but I assume all of the first disk is acoustic guitar.

PS There are plenty of other (non-Sony) guitar libraries out there, such as Strummers Ball and Guitar Studio etc.

I did a Google search for Strummers Ball and Guitar Studio, but I was not able to find these libraries. Would you mind posting url's or links for these as I am always looking for more guitar loops. Thanks, luces

The 200MB is additional material included on the Expanded Edition. I have the original double-disk library, which has about 1GB (almost 700 loops) of pure acoustic guitar loops. About 45% is devoted to chord progressions, 45% one-chord strums and 10% one shot chords. As a songwriter and a acoustic guitar player, I really like the library a lot and is one of the better Sony loop libraries. Not just because of the added value of the two-disk set and the 24-bit quality, but because of the depth and variety of the loops. Unlike some loop libraries, you won't find a lot of useless filler material. The chord progression loops are either 2 or 4 bar and anywhere from 2 to 6 chords, many with 2nd & 3rd inversions to add variety and spice. From a typical straight ahead 2-bar I-IV strum to a 4-bar Asus9-F#m11-Fmaj7b5-Esus4 decending groove. Together with the one chord strum (also 2-4 bars) and one shot chord loops(both upstroke & downstroke) there is plenty of useable material to keep you busy. Getting the extra 200MB of loops and extra demo material makes the package even more appealing, IMO. I wish there was a way for me to get the extra material that I did not get in the original collection. Oh well..........

Try Big Fish Audio. They ship fast (to Australia anyway):

No it's not, it's sold in several sites. Here's the cheapest one I've found:

Are you sure that it is the new Expanded Edition? It looks like the previous library that I got, back in April. If you look at the bottom of the CD jackets, they look different. I think Sony is blowing out the older stock. The original library was only $59.95 list to begin with. The new updated library has 200MB of additional material along with two fully arranged ACID projects, by Leo Cavalo, that showcase these sounds in combination with a wide selection of ACID library sounds. I don't think you will see a brand new $99.00 dollar Sony Premium double-disk loop library going for $39.00 (60% off) right after it's release. It's still a good deal on the original library though. I got mine for $41.00 last April, during a promotion, directly from the Sony website.

Probably not, though on both sites they talk about the same amount of loops.... I don't know, but as you said, I think it's still a good deal for the original one..... I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
