Need a little help. I am trying to run my Yamaha AW16G into Acid but seem to have some trouble. Anyone running hardware into Acid 4.0? If so how are you doing it? I have a midisport 2X2. Please advise. Also, how can you tell which port on a Soundblaster Audigy is for midi, right, left etc.....?

If you want to use the Yamaha AW16G as a mixer you can plug the audio stereo out into the Audigy line-in. You’ll need a Y adapter that goes from two 1/4 inch mono line outs on the AW16G to a 1/8 inch stereo mini plug in on the Audigy. If you look at the Audigy card, the jacks are labeled as to which is line-in and which is mic-in.

If you want to connect it via MIDI, connect the AW16G MIDI Out to the MIDISport 2x2 MIDI IN A and connect the MIDISport 2x2 MIDI OUT A to the AW16G MIDI IN. The Audigy also has MIDI ports but you can use the MIDISport 2x2.

Note: I don’t have a Yamaha AW16G I’m just going by this picture.

Thanks JR....But now is there something that I need to go into in Acid and on the Yamaha to ensure that they are talking to each other? I used the Y connection and went from the stereo out directly into the sound card.

As long as everything is connected correctly, it should be fine. You can test the digital audio part out by playing something back in the AW16G and recording it in ACID (ensuring the right hardware input is selected).

I'm not entirely sure what the AW16G is capable of MIDI-wise, but it looks like it can receive/send MIDI control data. You can probably test this out by sending changes via the MIDI List Editor in ACID Pro. (Access a MIDI track's properties to get to it.) Be sure that your MIDI I/O is enabled by going to Options > Preferences and then the MIDI tab.

I noticed the AW16G has S/PDIF I/O (optical) as well. You could use this as an alternative to the 1/4" outs for digital audio. (But you have to have the right audio interface with an optical S/PDIF input, of course.)

My setup is incredibly simple. I have a GNX2 guitar effects processor's S/PDIF out (coaxial) going into an Echo MiaMIDI's S/PDIF in. I also have the GNX2's MIDI I/O going to the MiaMIDI for the purposes of receiving MIDI CC data and controlling the GNX2 via its GenEdit software interface.
