Subject:How can I unlock the Acid 5 Pro Demo?

HI,

My Acid 5 Pro Trial has expired, so I purchased the full version online. As my DAW's not connected to the net, I can't use the "Purchase online" option the splash screen of the former trial gives me. I also don't want to spend money on a call to the U.S. - the second option.(I'm located in Europe).

Do I have to uninstall the demo and reinstall the full version - which I want to avoid as I've made a lot of changes to Acid 5 preferences?

Thanks,
Zerobae

If you purchased the downloadable version online you should have gotten an email with the serial number and download instructions.

Open the demo and select Purchase via phone. Enter your serial number in the space provided.

(You'll still need to register but you can do that via another computer).

Happy mixing,
Jenn

The new version also requires activation so you are not going to get around it either way. There should be an option to activate from another computer. This saves an HTML file to your hard drive. You then take that file to a computer that’s Internet connected and double-click on it. It will register your copy and give you back a .REG file that you can copy to the original computer and import into your registry. You will then be authorized.

Thanks for your help, it finally worked out.

But I have to say I've never seen a software registration clumsier than this. Please make this less confusing! Thanks for the XPress-Keyboards anyway...

I've seen much worse. We have a few programs here at work that require us to print out a form that we fill in by hand, fax it to the publisher, they fax back a key code, we type that in, print out another form, fax it to them, then call them on the phone and explain *why* we are installing this software (because we just bought the license from them, of course), and they recite a 45 character code that we type in. That's one of the simple ones. We can't even do the Synergy Systems license ourselves; we have to have a licensed installer obtain and enter it for us. Of course, at $600/hour for the installer's fees, that's a very expensive registration operation! At least they can do it remotely instead of charging us an additional $1000/day for travel plus 8 hour minimum for coming here to do it.

On the whole, about the only easier registration i've seen than SONY is those products that don't need any registration at all, or those few that only need a supplied unlock key typed in. Overall SONY's registration is relatively simple, fast, and painless.
