Subject:Firewire HD platform question

I've got a long term gig that involves editing many hours of seminar lectures that will eventually be converted to mp3 files for students to purchase. The original recordings will be done on a mac ibook using Peak. I'm trying to figure out how to get these many hours and many gigs of files easily transfered into my PC DAW so I can do the work using Sound Forge. My first thought was to use a firewire hard drive but is there such a thing as a drive that is both mac and pc compatible? My understanding is that it had to be formatted for one or the other. Any thoughts for a solution with this?

Thanks,

drbam

Format the drive on the PC. The Mac will deal with it.

Wow, thanks! That sounds easy. Almost too easy but hopefully it'll work. I can actually try it today because I have PC firewire backup drive in my studio which I can hook it up to one of my macs.

Thanks again!

My partner points out that I should have been specific about what format to use. Mac's do not recognize NTFS formatted drives. Therefore you will want to format as Fat32. This will restrict you to file sizes less than 4 gig. I appolgize for the previous incomplete answer and hope it didn't cause you to waste time.

Thanks for the quick clarification! Yes I would have wasted time as my drive is formatted NTFS. I'll just be mindful to format a new one to Fat32.

Thanks again,
