Subject:Which M-Audio Delta Drivers to choose for AP5 ?

I'm having AP5 crashing with the M-Audio Delta Asio Drivers (for my Delta44 : with the Delta WDM 5.10.00.0048a).

Is it my compter or my sound card drivers ? Or maybe just the song ? I donno, but I'll be glad if I had feedback from some other Delta users.

Try using the .27 drivers listed here:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

I stopped even trying out the newer Delta drivers, since .27. They all, (.36, .46, .48), at one time or another, with some audio app, start to give me performance problems and even BSOD's. I always end up going back to the tried and true .27 drivers, great performance and stellar stability. At least with the .27 Delta drivers, the old adage still applies, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The .27 drivers have worked great with all audio apps of mine over the last couple of years (they actually came out in mid-2002), whether I am using SONAR 4.01 (in WDM mode), Sound Forge 7 (in MME mode), Vegas 5b (in ASIO mode), or even the Windows Media Player 10, any audio app I have used has always worked with the .27 drivers. Even works great with my UAD-1 DSP cards. Of course, ACID Pro 5, (in ASIO mode), like ACID Pro 4, is working great with these drivers too. I usually set ASIO mode with a 1024
DMA sample buffer (23.2msec), while in ACID Pro 5.

I am thinking that the subsequent Delta drivers have just become too bloated, with useless crap that most of us don't need. Look at the 3-4MB size of the .36 & .46a drivers compared to the slim and efficient size of the .27 drivers (790kb).

I do remember having problems with my Audiophile with post-.27 drivers myself. Nothing but a headache in Sound Forge.

I think M-Audio tried implementing a "one-driver-fits-all" for the Delta series, hence why the size of the later drivers are so much bigger.

"these drivers are for Mac OSX only??"

It is the main M-Audio driver search page. Those are just the latest drivers.
You need to input your audio card and OS. In my case, that would be Delta 66 & XP.

any ideas?

Mmmmm......whenever I choose a Delta series, for card type and XP, for OS, I always get the .27 drivers to pop-up at the bottom of the list. In my case, Delta 66 & XP also gets me to the .27 drivers. You are using a Delta series audio card and a WinXP OS right? These are only available for the Delta's and XP combo.

I tried loading this driver through 'update driver' in the 'device manager'...and was unsuccessful. Evidently XP thought I should be happy with my 46 driver...If there is another way to load the 27 driver, I'd sure like to know how to do it. Thank you!

Hello,

You'll need to uninstall the existing ones first through Add-Romove Programs dialog.

hmmm.... I tried going back to the .27 drivers from the latest drivers. First I uninstalled the latest drivers and then install the .27

Now I seem to have 2 M-audio Delta 44 ASIO drivers to choose from audio app panels. Both give many errors. I know I uninstalled the driver correctly so I don't know what's wrong.

You have to use the M-Audio Un-installer.

Un-install using the M-Audio Uninstaller. Reboot if needed just to be sure.
Upon restart when the wizard pops up, choose the option to "Install from list or specific Location" point the search to where the drivers are located that will allow you to select drivers other than the ones already loaded in system.

Being a user of both Sonar and Acid, do the 27.drivers miss any of the specific fixes mentioned in the later drivers? I believe both Sonar and Acid had some issues with earlier drivers.

For the DAW work environment, the .27 drivers should be all you need. I am using the latest versions of SONAR 4(WDM), Sound Forge 7(MME), Vegas 5 (ASIO)& ACID Pro 5(ASIO) and they all work flawlessly with the .27 drivers. No problems when using my (2) UAD-1 cards with the .27 drivers, at various buffer settings either.

I concur with marll...When I first saw this thread - I took a half hour and popped the .27 driver set on for a bit of nostagia. After seeing these are from Dec 2002...it didn't take long to experience the "double" set of driver choices in Nuendo, Vegas and Acid - I uninstalled by the book using the M-Audio uninstaller but issue started developing.

So I am back using the 48a drivers on the Delta 1010 and they are super rock-solid - in every app I run. Oddly - on my particular system I get a much better playback and timeline response from the 48a set than the .27 set.

Cheers,

VP

This thread once again confirms that I NEVER want to purchase an maudio card! These type of discussions have been going on for years in virtually every audio forum you can find and here it is again! Unbeliveable! I personally won't support a company that can't get their shit together better than this. Of course they were just purchased by digidesign so maybe it will get better or worse but regardless I hope they fire the driver developers.

Hey drbam....Wow. Nice clear adult response to the thread...welcome aboard.

BTW - who in this thread is asking you to purchase anything from M-Audio?....Just keep using the crap you have now and move on. Unless of course, you have something meaningful to add to the thread...

i think if my post was read correctly i actually said, in effect, that i have had NO PROBLEMS with my current setup.
I actually find this card to be great quality and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others

...For the record, I figured out my problem with my Delta 44. It was very minor. I stand behind M-audio product fully. :D

Before updating Acid Pro 4 to AP5 I tried out driver version 5.10.00.0048 and had to bump my DMA Buffer size from 64 to 128 samples in order to prevent drop-outs and pops. The 64 setting is no longer acceptable. Is 128 still a decent setting?

I'm using the Delta-66 Omni on XP and driver version 5.10.00.0029 at 64 samples had no problems in Forge 7, Vegas 5, AP4, Sonar 3!

I'm running more tests before I consider switching back.

I would think 128 samples (or 2 milliseconds) of latency is fine. Some don't get away with that low a latency.

Thanks for the tip, Iacobus! I guess I'll keep version 5.10.00.0048 for now. I'll post here again if any problems crop up. -Kurt

128 samples ??? I've heard human ears couldn't guess latency untill something like 12 or 15 ms. That's why I chose 11ms (512 samples). And another reason, is that lots of synths, and playback in Acid gets really ugly (fast st-t-t-t-t-uttering) under this latency.

By the way (about latency), does anyone knows why I get "delay" and "step" glitches with my midi knobs/faders controllers (m-audio radium - usb) while controlling synth's knobs ? (this has nothing to do with Acid in particular, but with all apps).
