Handwriting animation

I saw this movie the other day..and at the end the directors name came up in a cursive font...but it came out as an animation like some one was writing it..left to right...i tired to make this with a cursive font..then i did a linear swipe going to the right and it kinda looked like the animation but when it came to those big loops and stuff..you could tell that it was just a side swipe

how do make an animation for a handwritten effect in vegas 5?

As you have found, a simple method is to use a wipe.

To really controil how the letters write on, you can do this using a keyframed bezier mask to reveal the text in sequence. You can also use multiple masks to dot your I's and cross your T's.

I demonstrate this on disc 4 of The Vegas 5 Companion

There are a couple ways...Jason Abbott has a great tutorial on the VASST site about this, and then with Vegas 5, the newer/easier way is to use Bezier Masks to reveal the text. I believe there is a thread somewhere here on just that.
but...you can create the signature with the font, then use Bezier masking to reveal the segments of font you want, as you want them to reveal. Several keyframes later, you'll have your "hand written" credit.

Another easier way is to just get one of those writing tablets that you can hook up to your PC. Open up Photoshop, record the screen while you sign your name on the tablet.

I changed hosts recently and haven't straightened out my directory structure yet, so links to the tutorial Spot mentioned might be broken at the moment. You can read it here: http://webott.com/html/tutorial/handwriting/. You can do the same without SpiceMaster. VASST's "All Things Vegas" section has a couple .veg project files that demonstrate, with and without SpiceMaster.

thanks...one more thing...I decided to get WAX because it looks amazing...but theres one thing..it says on the site where you Download it

"With Vegas 4 and above the plugin integrates more with Vegas using scripting so please download and install the .NET framework if you havent yet."

what is the .NET framework?

im a noob when it comes to scripts and stuff like that

Go to http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step2.asp?DID=493 and download the .net framework. You'll need it to run any scripting utilities in Vegas. It comes with Vegas 5, but with Vegas 4, you'll need to manually install .net.
