Subject:EQ envelopes done more elegantly?

Hi,
let's say I'd like to only play the bass levels of a song and discard the rest (or vice-versa), how can I handle that in an elegant manner in Acid Pro 5?
I played around with the track eq envelope but it's not easy to do, since you seem to need an envelope for each of the eq's parameters, i.e. Frequency, Gain, Bandwidth, Mode, Enable for Band 1, then all of these for Band 2, 3, 4... and there are still other paramters.
How is one supposed to handle all of them elegantly? Seems like you'd have to readjust many of them all the time. What a mass of work!
I'd suppose a "pro" software to let you set the EQ for every one point (if necessary) on the envelope and that the software interpolates the EQ settings between any two points. Maybe there is a possibility to do this and I just didn't see it.
I hope anybody can help and show how to handle EQs quickly and elegantly.

Well, to begin with, you can't really eliminate parts of the mix this way. You can accentuate the bass and diminsh the treble, but you won't completely remove parts.

I'm also not sure why you need an envelope at all. Can't you just set EQ once to pass the frequencies you want and diminish those you don't and let that setting run for the entire song? Why do you need the settings to change as the song progresses? I'm not saying you don't need this. I'm just wondering why you think you do.

Hi,
You raised an interesting point: I didn't specify my intention in being able to set EQ envelopes.
I want to do DJ-like mixes of tracks and loops and it's usual, in some cases, to play everything but the bass of the old song while starting to play the bass only of the new song and then gradually increasing the other frequencies to finish the mix.
I'd like to be able to change EQ settings (i.e. playing bass solely or everything but bass) through the mix in an elegant and practical way.
The best would be to be able to set an "event" at any time which specifies the whole eq settings and that the settings would be interpolated smoothly between two of those events, i.e. blending from one EQ set to another over time, gradually.

You really only need to use at most 2 envelopes per track to acheive this. Gain and Frequency.

You could also get away with only Freqency if you are just using bands 1 and 4 for cutting away frequencies.

All the other settings in the plugin can be set once and left.

ibliss,

thanks so very much for the hint with using only gain and frequency on band 1 and 4. I made a low pass filter by using band 4, putting the envelope constantly on frequence around 1000hz. And I play with the gain envelope to activate or deactive it and choose amount of low pass filter.

Great.
If there are any other ideas relating this issue and the idea I stated before (with events and interpolation through them), anybody is welcome to join in the discussion.

Cool... though I would have done it the other way, with the gain fixed at -inf and then automate the frequency. When it's up at 20K the cut is a minimal difference, but you can still sweep the freq right down and cut out a lot of the audio.

Also have you tried playing with the Resonance plug in?

Hi Steve,

Have you also tried playing around with envelopes at the bus level using the bus tracks view? (In ACID Pro 5, the shortcut is B; in ACID Pro 4, it's U.) It may help if you want to group and isolate a set of tracks sent to a bus rather than the entire mix.
