Head on over to the KVR forum, to post your vote for Acid. Right now the Sonar forum have been rounding up votes and sending them over to the KVR forum, and Sonar is in the lead. Let's show how much we love Acid.

I can't say that Acid 5 is my favorite right now. It might be good, but It crashes on startup so I wouldn't know. I know it's one of my VST plugins, but I have no idea which one (I have LOTS of VSTs). When I started moving them around to figure this out, it seemed to reset all kinds of copy protection bits, so I put it off, hoping that Sony would release an update that fixed it instead. So far no luck. So how is Acid these days?

Thanks Red, I just added my vote for ACID. It’s what I spend most of my time composing in.

I just posted my 2 cents as well. Hey Laurence, definately get to the bottom of which VSTi is the culpret. I can tell you that I had several complaints about version 4 that have been cleaned up in 5 (for the most part). I think we will definately be seeing some new builds soon, because I know that there are some compatibility issues with a few VSTi's (that I'm able to get working in other apps). I'm actually using Acid for once in a loooong time without pulling out my hair. I love v.5!

Midihead

Laurence,
Try removing all your free VSTis. Synthedit VSTis can sometimes cause problems.

To help track this down, try the following:

With ACID 5.0 NOT running.
Locate sfvstwrap.dll in your ACID Pro 5.0 install directory.
Rename it to sfvstwrap.foo or just move it to another directory.
Start ACID 5.0.

Does ACID start correctly? If not:

With ACID 5.0 NOT running.
Replace sfvstwrap.dll.
Locate sfvstisynth.dll in your ACID Pro 5.0\MIDI Drivers install directory.
Rename it to sfvstisynth.dll or just move it to another directory.
Start ACID 5.0.

Does ACID start correctly?

Let me know how it goes.

Peter

I just installed SONAR 4 today and it has a utility that loads right after install and sweeps your VST directories and reports which ones won’t start correctly and gives you the option of disabling them. This is an extremely simple solution that ACID should seriously take a look at. Just write a sweeper utility to configure ACID.

Renaming sfvstwrap.dll to sfvstisynth.dll worked, I can now run Acid 5! Is it fixed or do I need to do something else now? By the way, I get an error saying that the Sony Media Manager has failed on startup and not functioning. I got the same error in Acid 4 though and Acid still seemed to work OK. Should I do anything about this?

Well, that is not what I said to do. Renaming sfvstwrap.dll to sfvstisynth.dll could cause you some problems. You should name it to

sfvstwrap.foo

or

sfvstwrap.dl_

or even better, just move it to a temp location.

Note that not having the sfvstrwrap.dll will prevent you from using VST plugins. We will fix the issue you are having, but it is nice to know exactly what is go

Since ACID 4 can't use the Media Manager, I don't know what you are seeing.

Yes, and along those lines, I would like to see ACID quit re-scanning the same plugins everytime you re-start ACID 5. Once should be enough (like when you initially install ACID, as part of the setup process), then let it be a manual re-scan @ the users discretion, if and when new or updated plugins are installed. This could be done from the VST Effects & Instruments tabs, within ACID's Preferences. Have a manual "Re-scan" button available for absolute user control over the process. This would solve a lot of user complaints about this issue. There is no need to continuely re-scan the same plugins time and time again, IMO. Not sure if this is in the cards for an update to ACID 5, but I would hope so.

Since there still seems to be those that don't know, I will repeat this one more time:

The VST rescan issue is a known problem and will be addressed in a future update.

Note also that this is only a VST issue, not a VSTi issue.
