Subject:Guitar Tracks Pro 3 vs. ACID Pro 5

I'm a guitarist and use ACID Pro 4 for recording rock demos. I have a pretty nice
IBM laptop, but ACID is starting to sag when I have too many tracks &/or effects.
Would Guitar Tracks be a better program for me? I'm looking to record mainly
rock/pop songs and not hip hop or the sorts of things it really seems ACID was
designed for. I record a lot of the parts myself.

Might GT be more efficient? Less CPU load for the tasks I tend to perform?

Thanks!

Rick

hey
i use it al l(cool edit pro, acid pro sonar and now i have just started using GT pro 3...
i find the mixing console great and the track layout is good too...it is basically the same engine as sonar 3+
it works well using acid loops and if you check out drumsondemand.com you will find a great tool for drum track composition...they will send you a sample to try...
hope that helps

Hello,

Try the demo and see if you like it, I think Vegas is a better recording software than GT3, or even Sound Forge. They have demos to try as well.

See ya, Rockitglider

exactly: why don't you try Vegas instead of Acid? It's a multitrack and it's loaded with everything one needs to mixdown / master

As I'm already familiar with the ACID interface, VEGAS might make sense for me. However, it's $400 more than Guitar Tracks Pro.

GT and Home Studio are pretty good programs. Since acid is not a recording app, you may want to try those - but they will not sound any better than acid. And I don't think it will help with cpu usage and stuff like that. If recording is your focus, you need a recording chain (mic/preamp or amp simulator and a good sound card) and a pretty new computer.

Hey Spin, why don't you try to find Vegas 4 instead? It would be cheaper and meet more than your expectations. If you just intend to record several tracks then mix, even VegasVideo3 would make the job and you wouldn't need a bigger machine to run it (and don't get confused by the "video" in the name, it's really a GREAT piece of gear for audio!).

OK. Why not open the can of worms? I'm now thinking I should just get Pro Tools LE. It's only $350 more than Guitar Tracks which doesn't even have MIDI, and just a little more than VEGAS. I really like the ability to FTP my file to a producer and have him mix the thing. It really seems like Pro Tools is *the* industry standard.

Can you offer some perspective on the pros and cons of going with ProTools vs. ACID or its competitors?

I use pro tools along with acid, and I think they work well with each other. Especially now that ap5 can be rewired as a slave inside of pro tools.

Cool. I'm more of a novice. Haven't slaved anything but a guitar amp. How do you use ACID with ProTools? What do you use it for? I bet it still has a niche being as powerful and easy to use as it is.
