For those interested, you can get a 100% free copy of Traktion here:
http://www.mackie.com/products/tracktion/index.html

You must register an account first in order to enable the downloads, but that is a relatively painless affair and small price to pay for free software, IMHO...

The only downside is, it is NOT upgradable for the discount price when Traktion 2 becomes available sometime early next year.
However, it is the latest version and it is fully functioning.
C'mon, fill your boots!!

I couldn't get it. It was expecting one or more codes which I do not have.

If you can give us a walkthrough on how to obtain the software, it would be appreciated.

TIA,

You guys need to learn to dig a little if you’re going to reach the gold. ;-) (just kidding)

These are actually being offered by Mackie through MusicPlayer.com and Keyboard Magazine. You should probably click through their sites rather than going direct.

Look at the bottom of the article and there will be a link for your free license key. You should have already downloaded Tracktion from the Mackie site.

Hello,

The only download I see at Mackie is the Demo, and I signed up at the mackie site, but I still don't have a code. Is it supposed to be e-mailed to us? Thanks for the help.

Hello again,

Nevermind, I think I figured most of it out, exept for the download part, will the demo work for this? I got the key. Thanks again.

Yes, the demo is the real code. It just creates a noise every so often until you enter the a license code. You want the demo. Click the About Box and it will have a button to enter the license key.

BTW, Tracktion works extremely well with ACID Pro 5.0 in ReWire mode. If you’re looking for a MIDI sequencer with punch-in/out, pre-roll/count in for metronome, loop based MIDI recording, etc. Tracktion can’t be beat for the price (especially for free, I just bought it a week ago). :(

Shameless promotion isn't it? Mackie is pretty much a drug pusher now huh? We'll give you the first hit for free, so that you have the chance to get addicted, then we'll start charging you on the next version. Still can't say I'm interested even for a free pricetag. I tried out traxtion for about a month, and it looked and functioned like a toy.

I've done quite a few projects with Tracktion. I actually preferred it to Sonar 3, though Sonar 4 is pretty hard to beat. I also own Acid 5, but I can't get past the startup screen without crashing, so I can't really say how it is. Lots of people have moved from more expensive programs to Tracktion because they like the straightforward interface.

That's tasteless to come here and post a competing message like this. Buy an ad on KVR or something, for crying out loud! Maybe I should advertise my company's products here as well...free advertising! Come on, have some class.

This is not a competing message. Sony has made it painfully clear that ACID it NOT a MIDI Sequencer and NEVER WILL BE. Tracktion does NOT compete with ACID. It has NO ACID looping capability at all. It doesn’t map to tempo, it doesn’t automatically pitch shift. It is a perfect compliment for MIDI musicians who like ACID but can’t live without a MIDI Sequencer. They ReWire seamlessly together.

I would have never known about Tracktion had it not been for this forum and I am glad that someone posted about it a while ago in response to Sony explaining to us that they will not be improving the MIDI functionality of ACID.

I believe that ANY application that ReWires with ACID is fair game for discussion in this forum. That’s what ReWire is all about; using the best parts from each application. So if your company produces applications that ReWire with ACID we would love to hear about them here.

Johnny is right. Tracktion would complement, not compete with acid. It might make a great fit.

so, if you want to combine ACID and Tracktion you have to use ACID as the Rewire Slave? if ACID can be the master i'll definitely give it a shot. but i don't fancy playing 95% of my project (ACID) thru rewire all the time.

yes, but i wouldn't worry to much about the rewire aspect as Traktion seems to handle the process quite well... It's a fairly solid combination although at present, i beleieve Sonar is the most solid rewire host for Acid.
ORion and Fruity Loops are a disaster for me, cubase has glitches and pops a lot...
