Subject:4 worked great, 5 records with latency?

My setup: SB Audigy2 Platinum. P4 1.8 1gig Ram big hard drives So I've been using ACID since 3 Music, then 4. With Microsoft Sound Mapper i was able to record without any latency fine with 3 and 4. But now in 5, it is all messed up. Serious latency. So what changed between 4 and 5 to cause all this trouble? I did try using the ASIO drivers, but they won't let me hear what I play in ACID. Though in Cubase it does support the directx full duplex asio which works. SO, is there something I need to set in 5 to get it to work the same way as 4 when recording? |

In Options > Preferences > Audio, set your device to Creative ASIO and press Apply. Next press the Advanced button and set your latency to 5ms. This should do the trick. ~jr |

I'm having the same problem with AP5 I have a P4 3.0GHZ, 512MB ram, SB Live card and plenty of HD space. I did not have the problem in earlier versions of ACID either. |

I am having the latency problem also -- 2.8 GHz P4, 1 Gig Ram, SB Audigy 1 card without ASIO support. Never had this problem with 4.0, which worked great. |

I experienced some latency not with recording but just normal playback. What I did was disable media manager in the options and then uninstalled MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server) from Add/Remove Programs. Some of you might not want to do uninstallation so go into the general options and disable Media Manager (near the bottom of the first tab) and then go into task manager and kill the process sqlsrvr.exe (or something spelt like that) and close Acid and go back into it. Here is something I posted earlier... I saw the latency, but others did not. http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=334853 If you do get better results after disable SQL server and Media manager please post to that thread and share your experience. If not, please reply here and let me know if you tweaked any other settings to get better performance... Thanks. |

Edward, Thanks for your tip. That did help tremendously with getting the program to not only run faster, but also start up faster. However, the latency issue is still there -- I still have to move the track over a bit to the left to get the sync just right. I have been trying multiple takes with a short guitar riff (the guitar is in my lap as I type this) and it still happens. Additionally, the other day I was getting a 1/2 step pitch drop after recording multiple takes of a keyboard track. Today, I have not been able to reproduce the 1/2 step pitch drop. Since I have disabled the media manager and SQL, I will let you know if this happens again. Thanks. |

Same thing with me--I did get the program to run a little faster, but I still have a problem with the latency...I don't know whats up. I'm not having the pitch problem though--still just the latency. Frusterating, but manageable... |

Have you tried adjusting the offset in the Audio prefs page? There is a setting there that lets you manually compensate for recording offsets. Also, if you are not using the ASIO drivers, then you should still work at 48 kHz. Why? Because the Audigy internall always works at 48 kHz. Because of this, Windows will resample on the fly all i/o from the audigy and cause timing issue between input and output. Peter |

Hey man, try this out. I think lots of people think otherwise, but you can actually record while listening to what you play in acid with the ASIO driver with Audigy 2. I found this out by chance. Here's what you do: 1- Go to "Options/Preferences/General" and uncheck "Close media files when Acid is not the active application" 2- Open your Creative surround mixer 3- Press the record button in Acid 4 - Now on the Creative mixer, click on the little speaker icon under "Line in" to mute it, and click again to un-mute it. You should now be able to record while hearing what you play. I think this is a bug with either Acid or the Creative Mixer, but following these steps it works very well. Now Acid Pro 5 also works very well for recording in ASIO while rewired to Reason. See Ya Steve |
