you don't find this out till you install AP5 but you need .net framework 1.1 for
scripting...what they also don't tell you is you need service pack 1 for .net framework 1.1 as well..i am running winxp pro service pack 1 and only after i uninstalled AP5 loaded .net 1.1 then .net 1.1 serv pack 1 then reinstalled AP5 did media manager work...guess they left that out in the rewuirements...maybe if you have winxp pro service pack 2 maybe all is well i don't know but these steps got me up and running..take a little bit for it to digest it all but after ir does no more media manager or account priveleges errors

I'm a little confused about this service pack 1 you are talking about - is this the WinXP SP1 or some kind of service pack for the .net stuff? I run WinXP Home with SP1 and the default installation of AP5 and Media Manager seems to run okay. The AP5 install installed the necessary files pretty much on it's own in my case. I didn't have to go to Microsoft's site for any additional software. What I did have to do to get AP5 to get past an error on start was to go to Windows Services and enable a bunch of stuff that had MSSQL or the like in the app name. Seems to work okay. Can you describe just how Media Manager didn't work for you, toneranger?

He's talking about service pack 1.1 (I think) for .NET Framework.

Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and have it scan your machine.

I think you might need Windows XP SP2 in order to get this .NET Framework patch.

i was running winxp pro sp1 and media manager would not load properly
it would fail to initialize...after a couple of phone calls and piecing together some tech info like a puzzle, i uninstalled everything then loaded .net framework 1.1 (apparently not in sp1 for xp) rebooted and loaded the .net sp1 not win xp pro sp1 but the sp1 for .net then rebooted and loaded AP5 again and the install went smoothe.
maybe all that is in sp2 for xp but since my machine is not internet enabled i did not want all the new firewall issues to contend with
hope that helps

Not to sound like a total knob, but where do I find this .net framework 1.1 sp1?
I'm on XPhome SP1.

Thanks.

You only need .NET Framework 1.1 and not NET 1.1 service pack 1. Having .NET 1.1 sp 1 won't hurt, but it's not needed.

You can go to our downloads page and check under Utilities for the link to Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 download. Or just go to Microsoft's Download site: http://www..microsoft.com/downloads

I ended up installing P5 without MM for now.
Does MM automatically catalogue all your libraries for you?
I just don't see the point in spending all that time doing it manually.

As I mentioned, I DID NOT neet to have any kind of update to the .net software for AP5 to load and work. All I needed was on the install disk form Sony. And, I do not have SP2 for Windows either. I refuse to have that due to the number of apps that break and problems that occur (Firewire slow downs for one) when updated to SP2.
