I haven't any success in rewiring Acid to Logic. Each time I lauch Acid after having setting up and launching Logic, the Logic Audio Engine seems to having been losed. There are not any sound from the logic faders anymore (audio tracks and instrument tracks). Concerning Acid, the soft is in rewire device mode (good sample rate, 32 bit) but the audio fader is freezing (ie. the green indicator isn't moving). The only thing that is in synch between the two apps is the play function and the tempo. The stop and cycle ones are not functionning. In my many attemps, I have only once succeeded to have logic and acid played but the sound from the acid rewire channel was heavily distorded. Besides that, every time Acid make logic stop working. I've succeeded to test the Ableton Live, Rebirth and Reason demo in rewire slave mode with Logic, and everything works perfectly. Acid is the only one that I can't slaved to Logic by rewire. |

We expect that ACID should work correctly with Logic, but did not test with Logic as a ReWire host app, because Logic for Windows has been discontinued and we have been unable to obtain a copy of Logic with which to test. We will make every attempt to obtain a licensed copy of Logic for Windows, but we cannot guarantee that ACID will work well when ReWired with this discontinued product. Joel |

Well, I feared this was going to be the answer. :-( I contacted Emagic to ask them if they can provide you a testing version of Logic 5.5. I'm not sure they would help, but maybe sometimes they remember we were - and still are! - loyal consumers, and that they still owe us somehow. In the other case, it is reported that Logic Pro 7 XSKey are crossplatform. That means that if you have a Logic Pro 7 mac license and a logic Win 5 intall CD, you could run Logic 5.5 Win because it would be authorized. The thing that I know for sure is that everty Logic Mac Xskey (5 and 6 version) comes with a 30 days authorizations for the Windows platform. So if you succeed to get a Mac version of logic 5,6 or 7, I would happily send you one my several Logic 5 Win installation CD if you want to test it. I know that from a business point of view, it seems that the support of a discontinued product doesn't really worth it. But one thing you have to think about, is that they still are several Logic PC users who are not ready to jump to the mac platform (it is really not the easiest decision to make), nor giving up on the only DAW they really feel confortable and ultra-productive with. And these thousands of users can't expect Emagic to add functionality to their product. So the only way to expand it is to buy external software like Rewire one. For example, if one want to add Looping tools to Logic, he can't expect that one day his Logic will have them. He knows that only either Acid or Ableton Live will provide them. And it would be a shame that only Ableton benefits from the money we save on upgrade and such because Acid doesn't work with Logic. For short, the fact that the product has been discontinued doesn't mean that the users have disapeared. And Acid with even a more than 2 years old version of Logic is really a powerful combination... PS: Rebirth, Reason and Live works perfectly rewired to Logic. PS2: sorry for the long post, but I was so excited when I saw that I would be able to run Acid alongside with Logic, I now feel very disapointed that it could eventually not happened... |

> Well, I feared this was going to be the answer. :-( It is very unfortunate that Emagic has made this decision but just a word of advice: Face the facts rather than postpone the inevitable. Regardless of what you “want” to do (I realize you “want” Emagic to support Logic on the PC) what you now “need” to do is find new audio production software. The sooner, the better. SONAR and ACID ReWire great together and SONAR probably has many of the functions you’re use to in Logic. You can download the demo of SONAR 4 and take a serious look at how you could make the move. This is not an easy thing, I know, but every new song you make in Logic is another song you have to move to a new program later. (because the move is inevitable!) The sooner you learn a new tool and get productive in it, the less aggravation you will encounter as new plug-ins come out that you can’t use in Logic or new OS Service Packs or DirectX versions come out that break Logic and then you will be dead in the water in the middle of a critical project with no one to turn to. I don’t know how Emagic dumped this on you, but any good software manufacturer would have given you plenty of time to make the change by announcing that support is ending in a year so you can move to using new software. Like I said, this is just advice but I’ve seen this too many times and have concluded that its better to move on then try and stay with a dead product until its totally unusable anymore. ~jr |

Well, first, I know Emagic will never support PC anymore. I just expect them not to prevent other company like Sony from supporting Logic PC. Concerning my "inevitable" move, I think I am in a better place to know what's better for me. You know, I am not a shy and "oh my god, I can't use a new software" kind of guy. In fact, I tested every other DAW. And of course, they have many functions I wish I could have in Logic, and they only lacks a few I love in Logic. But the fact is, I'm a Logic Power User. And I can tell you that once you became one, the flexibility and the overall workflow you've got with this particularly flexible application couldn't be provided by another DAW. I love Sonar audio clips, Cyclone DXi, etc. But I'll never be able to reach the same workflow I've got with Logic. You have to trust me on that one as would say Jack Bauer. So eventually, one day, when I will see that I reached the limit of Logic 5, that I am the last user, and there nothing that will work anymore, then I will have to find my way. But probabilities are that I will go the Logic route anyway... But not now. It feels not the time, and I can continue to make great music with my current rig. In fact, I've just discovered Live (side effect of testing Acid in rewire mode ;-) ) , and it works beautilfuly with logic. I don't want to give up on Acid, because I still think it's a tremondous tool, but if it doesn't work with Logic, I know that's not Logic that will be ditched. I don't say that Sony or everybody should support Logic PC Users forever. I just say, give us a little time, we are still there. In fact, in a few days, I saw more than half a dozen posts on various forums concerning Acid and Logic... Not bad for dead product I think.... |

If we can obtain a legal license of Logic that will run on WinXP/2K, we will solve the problems. If we are unable to obtain a license, we will continue to develope and improve our ReWire device/client functionalty and compatability. This process may allow us to uncover indirectly the reasons why ACID and Logic don't work together. Peter |

I hope you can get a copy of Logic to test it out with .At the moment if you try to preview a loop in AP5 it throws up an Asio overload message in Logic . Also the timeline in AP5 seems to keep on moving even when Logic is stopped. Regards Kraznet |
