Subject:Acid 5+Stylus RMX=? Ram

Returning to Acid after a 3 year voyage with G4's..I just updated to Acid 5 and have been using it with the new Stylus RMX. On a Compaq R3000Z laptop, with Win xp SP2. Having been away from Acid since the Win 98 days..I have a few questions.

As Acid and StylusRMX both are RAM intensive- outside of the usual "as much as possible"..what is the general advice for amount of RAM? I am using 512, but want to step up-in this case, is it more reliant on RMX than Acid? I am leaning to a gb in one slot, the stock 256 in the other. Or would more be appropriate?

When running Rewire (as I also se Live 4 and Reason 2.5) has anyone felt they were RAM constricted with 512MB?

Nice to be back on this forum..I was an original member in ...when was it..the late 50's..? Actually, it was when the Sonic Foudry rep told me that it would be over the SF engineers' dead bodies the day midi was implemented in Acid.

anyone seen any bodies floating around Lake Mendota??

Ummm...as much as possible? ;o)

Seriously, 512 MB is a definite good start. How much RAM you'll actually use is dependent on what you're doing. (For instance, only Loop tracks use RAM, while One-shot and Beatmapped tracks are disk-based (they playback directly from your hard drive).)

StylusRMX looks like a RAM hog; at Spectrasonics' Web site, they recommend at least 1 GB of RAM for multi-timbral use.
