I'm looking to get some new reference DVD's and music CD's to play on systems I have set up,.
the ones I have got are getting old(to my ears&eyes anyway)
I remember Spot saying that Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" was one of the cleanest recordings , so I'm looking for example's like that.
CD:great production qualities, good dynamic range, wide timbre etc..
DVD: good 5.1/7.1 mixes, separation. great pic quality(compression color saturation etc.

I remember a post awhile back about movie recc's so I'll go back and look at that, but it doesnt have to be a great movie ,cd in itself(content per say)just good A/V qualities.

What do your trained eyes and ears like?

get some of the DTS sampler DVD's some really nice stuff visually and sound . I think you can buy them from DTS , i have the last 8 , but i'm not sure how many total there are ..

otherwise I use one of the Lord of the Rings Disks or 5th Element Superbit (though 5th element first release also looked great) or one of the test dvds i made.

some of the remastered DTS audio CD's (20bit cds) are also very good ....

One for sure not to miss is Pirates of the Caribbean. First time ever a calibrated toolset has been given to viewers on a consumer DVD to set up their system, allowing them to see what the director saw. Really well done.
Money for Nothing is my fave, and the fave of several. Same with the Braveheart DVD, and Jan Hammer's Beyond the Mind's Eye.
All are excellent for testing/benchmarking/listening, and are fairly common among sound freaks.

Mouth Music (Rykodisc 10196) has always been one of my favorites.
It's kind of fusion-meets-traditional -gaelic. Extrodinary recording.
