Subject:Unable to Open .acd Files

One more question, please. I'm unable to get .acd and .acd-bak files to open when I drag them from my Explorer Music folder into either the Track List or the Track View.

When I drag them and take my finger off the mouse, a pop-up box appears on the screen for just a fraction of a second, which says: "Opening project (name of file) 0%". Then, nothing.

I'm able to drag and open wav files in ACID, but not saved .acd files.

Thank you in advance!

Can you open ACD project files any other way? (Like double-clicking in the Explorer window?)

The exact same thing happens when I double-click an .acd file in the Explorer window - the "Opening Project" box pops up for a fraction of a second and that's it.

The same thing also happens when I click File>Open, and then choose a file from the Open box.

Very odd. If anything, have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling ACID?

I'll try that now. Thanks!

I uninstalled and reinstalled ACID Xpress 4.0 - I was then able to open one .acd file (others still wouldn't open). I chose "Cut Track" after it was open. When I tried to open another .acd file, a pop-up box asked if I wanted to save the changes on the last file I had opened. I chose "Yes", and am now unable to open any .acd files.

Is this related? When I opened ACID Xpress for the first time, a pop-up box asked for a serial number (or, as another option, "insert the serial number at a later date and use the limited version of this application for now"). I haven't been provided with a serial number to insert, although I did include my email address in the registration box. I believe I was supposed to receive a serial number in an email confirmation.

Are .acd files unable to be opened in the version of the app I'm using now? If so, how can I switch to the full version of ACID XPress 4.0?

It’s been a while since I’ve used ACID XPress but if I remember correctly, you couldn’t use it at all without registering it (that was version 3.0). This may be part of your problem. Perhaps the 4.0 version lets you play with it but not save. I’ve never heard of any version that doesn’t let you load. Are you sure the .ACD files you are loading are from an XPress version of ACID? I’m sure it can’t load ACID Music or ACID Pro files because the effects are different. Where did you get these .ACD files from?

I also noticed that the file extensions of all my ACID files are now SBACID. Any idea what's going on?

The ACID files I'm trying to load were created a couple days ago in Sony Screenblaster ACID XPress 4.0. It could be that the limited version of XPress 4.0 isn't letting me save or use files I'm creating in that app.

If so, how can I upgrade to the full version of 4.0 without the serial number the app is asking for when I open it for the first time after installing? I did fill in all the registration information, and a Sony box appeared which confirmed that the registration was complete.

Yep, I have an idea. SBACID sounds like ScreenBlast ACID, which was the previous brand name Sony had for the entry level ACID line. I would imagine that ACID XPress 4.0 is based on the Screenblast version can only read and write SBACID files. This makes perfect sense since it doesn’t have the capabilities of other ACID applications. It’s limited to 10 tracks and doesn’t have any effects.

Sounds like I need to take the plunge and upgrade to ACID Music Studio 5, then. Will Music Studio 5 be able to use the files I created in XPress 4.0, or will I need to recreate them for the new app?

I don’t know if ACID Music Studio 5.0 will open the files created with Xpress 4.0. If I were you, I would download the Music Studio 5.0 demo and find out.

Project files (.acd or .acd-zip) created in ACID Screenblast XPress 4.0x should open in all ACID versions 4.0 and 5.0, including ACID Screenblast XPress 4.0.

Perhaps you cannot open your project because your file associations got messed up? The easy way to change this is to right-click on an .acd file in Windows Explorer and choose Open With, then set ACID 5 (or 4 if that's what you want) as the default program for opening these files.

I appreciate all the info. I'm getting Music Studio 5 - that should circumvent my problems. Thanks, all!
