OT: looking for compositing software that has vegas plugin

FrigidNDEditing wrote on 11/16/2004, 12:55 PM
I'm looking for compositing software in the $700 dollar range. I've looked at AE pro but that is 1K. I would prefer not to spend that kinda of money and would be more compfortable in the $700 dollar range but I don't think that i can get the non pro version and then upgrade it at a later date to pro. If I'm gonna spend $700 I might as well toss in the extra money and get the pro for like $300 more so that I will have the option of particles in the future.

Any suggestions?

BTW: I do realize that AE doesn't have a plugin for Vegas

Is "free" in your price range? If so, you may want to check out Wax 2.0 at www.debugmode.com

It's a pretty powerful piece of software -- especially for the price. Plugs in to Vegas, does particles, 3D and rotoscoping, among other things.

While you're there, download Satish's frameserver plug-in, too. That way you can instantly export your Vegas timeline into any software that can take an AVI file (including After Effects) with no rendering.

Main Concept makes a product called Main Vision for $199 that might be worth looking at also ...

BJ_M,

Looks like a good deal, and it supports AE plugs too.
Have you tried it? If so, how's the motion tracking?

i have not tried it -- but I think it has been reviewed before , it may have a demo to try also ...

This could be at least a good starting point for me. I may get the Main Vision by Main Concept. Does anyone out there have any experience with it?

BorisFX is not Boris RED.

It's a smaller effects package. Boris RED, in effect contains all of BorisFX from what I have heard.

Boris RedGl is $1600.
Boris Fx does compositing and has a stanalone keyframer plus a Vegas plugin
Red can be upgraded to from Fx for $999.

FX 7 Key Features

•Unlimited layers with shapes, motion blur for all shapes, apply modes and compositing features

•OpenGL hardware acceleration

•Advanced but easy to use keyframing and animation mode

•Vector Paint tools for advanced masking and compositing

•Vector Spline editing for rotoscoping and masks

•Natural Filters including Snow, Rain, and Fire

•Hundreds of customizable animated presets for Natural Media including wood grain, marble, fractal noise, and reptilian skin

•Support for unlimited audio tracks

•High impact filters including Light Zoom, Film Grain, 3D Image Shatter, and 60 more

•Animated gradients and Displacement Map

The aftereffects plugin support looks interesting.

Could be a good possibility.

Does anyone know what kind of learning curve it is?

Thanks

I think it has a steep learning curve, but I thought that about Aftereffects too.

I haven't used BorisFx but I did try the trial of Boris Red.

It was really difficult to play with because it allows so much control that there are just too many dials and settings.

I downloaded the tutorial pdf and went through it step by step and got some great results and started to learn some of the capabilities.
But the trial is only 14 days and wasn't near long enough to get too far into it.

I did get the impression that it was very powerful and well worth learning for anyone with that kind of money to spend.

If Boris Fx has what you want I think the results would be really good and the price is good.
