I just upgraded to Vegas 5 - use to have Ulread and they used software called Smartsound - Does the ACID family replace that ? There is an upgrade available for ACID Pro 5 - Vegas shipped Screenblast ACID 4 with their product - Not sure how all these fit together. I do know Smartsound - Does ACID replace this ? Any comments would be appreciated. |

You mean SmartSound's Quicktracks technology? ACID Pro is light years beyond that. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid Pre-order Instant ACID My ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

SmartSound has the advantage that you don’t have to know anything about music to use it. Just set the length, pick the style and it composes a piece with an intro and ending that fits perfectly. If you have lots of different clients and don’t mind giving each of them basically the same song, its great. Unfortunately, your music will sound just like everyone else that has SmartSound so it gets tired real fast. If you need a 5 minute song, you will get board quickly listening to SmartSound loop over and over again. It’s really geared for short pieces. ACID allows you to compose totally new music that no one has heard before but you need to have some appreciation for how a song is put together. You get to easily compose your own music from 1000’s of loops. It’s like SmartSound on steroids. You have full control over orchestration, timing, key changes, everything. It’s a little more work than SmartSound, but the music is all your own. In a project I did last year, I used a combination of ACID and SmartSound (because I ran out of time) and it was painfully obvious which ones were SmartSound because they were very repetitious. (like elevator music). ~jr |
