ok im using the emu 0404 with a phonic 1002 mixer.

when recording into acid pro 5 i drag n drop a wav file in as a drum track and then use the next track for bass..but when recording it the drums sound again as if they are being recorded at the same time from track one...how do i isolate each track so each one is sepaerate..please remember im using emu 0404 which has the dsp mixer built in that replaces the exisiting sound vol thingie..

cheers

Hello again...

Ok, I checked out the mixer on the phonic website, and have reached this conclusion based on the features available on this mixer.

It sounds like you are recording from the mix out of the phonic, which is fine except you are also playing the Output of ACID through the mixer, yes? This means that the every thing is recorded onto the new track.

You need to do one of the following:

1) connect the 0404 outputs directly to your amp, and rely on the amps volume controls & the patchmix fader controls. This will mean only the bass (or whatever) is going through the mixer into the 0404 inputs.

or

2) If you have to run the 0404 output through the mixer for whatever reason, you need to use the EFX pot on the 1002 to send signal to the 0404 input using the EFX jack output. So your setup might be like this:

0404 analog outputs > 1002 channels 3+4 (or 5+6, 7+8, 9+10)

1002 stereo output > power amp input

bass output > 1002 input channel 1; turn up EFX pot and level pot on this chan to send the bass to the EFX output seperate from the mix out.

1002 EFX jack output > 0404 analog input.

Hope this sorts it out!

at the moment i have it set up as follows

as i have the 1002 and not the 1202 which has the efx out put

1. ctrl room speaker out put going straight to the amp
2. output of 0404 coming into the phonic on chanel 3/4
3. phono output on the phonic marked rec going to input on 0404
4.bass guitar coming in to the phonic on 5/6

i seem to be able to record ok now but i have noticed when recording bass guitar its not competley clean it seems to have the drums in the background albeit very feintly...any further suggestions

please remember that the mixer im using is the smaller Phonic mm 1002

regards

The 1002 on phonic's website has an EFX output - do you have an older version? Here's a link to the page:

phonic 1002

The rec out is a copy of the main mix out, so everything coming into the mixer (and turned up of course) is going to come out of both the mix output and rec output.

If you don't have an EFX (Aux send) output then you can only get a clean bass signal by panning it hard left and the mix hard right whilst recording, and connecting the left output to the 0404 input. (or pan them the opposite way if you have the right (red) channel hooked up to the 0404).

Well, the 1002 that your link shows seems to have all the same features, just a slightly older design. The main difference is that on the older one you have and 'Aux' knob on every channel and an Aux jack output, and on the new one they call the same thing 'EFX'. It does the same thing, so you can set up as above in example 2, just replace 'efx' with 'aux'.

at the moment i have wired the mixer as follows

1. main out puts of phonic too the speaker amp
2. 2 rec phono outputs on mixer going to 2 line in on 0404
3. out puts of 0404 going to chanels 3/4 on mixer
4. bass via zoom 708 into chanel 5/6 on mixer

i tried using a stereo adapter in the aux send with the 2 line ins from 0404. But when i come to record i get the drum track being recorded too

The only sucsess i have had thus far is with the line ins going to the rec outs on the mixer and panning left for bass and mix to right as u suggested but im sure theres another remedy so i dont have 2

finally would u suggest whats the best way to set up the dsp mixer to work well with this dam outbaord mixer

again ibliss thanks for listening

If you are using the Aux send, you need to make sure that only the sounds you want recorded are sent to the Aux output. So turn down the Aux controls to nothing on the mixer channels fed from the 0404 outputs. Only turn up the Aux control on the bass channel.

Another way to hook things up would be to take the output of the ZOOM and plug it directly into the 0404 inputs. You will still hear the Bass as you are playing because the 0404 input will be passed through to the mixer.

You could also do away with the 1002 altogether by plugging the 0404 outputs directly into your amp.
