ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver For WDM Audio has just been released. For whatever reason it has cut my Acid5 loading time from 40 sec. to 10 sec.

This is goodness.

My guess is that they have fixed their hardware enumeration/profiling on connection ....finally.

Will have to try this out.

My understanding is that it’s primarily for cards that don’t have ASIO drivers or cards that have ASIO drivers that aren’t working for you. I would not swap out the M-Audio ASIO drivers unless you are having a problem with them. I have a business laptop that didn’t have ASIO drivers and ASIO4ALL worked great on it.

I think my favorite part is the picture of George W. Bush on the icon for Simple Settings vs. Advanced.

Ha!

Will this support ACID 4.0 users as well?

That was cute, but my favorite is the legend of the statuses with the last one being a Female symbol that stands for "Beyond Logic". I got a chuckle out of that one.

I have tried it with Acid 4.0f (a computer with AC'97 sound device).
When Asio is used, the playback starts with a slight delay and an audio click is heard before the song. Is that normal ?

I'm not using Asio on my DAW computer. I've got Edirol UA-5 USB device and everything works fine with the standard Windows XP audio driver.

What could be the advantages of using Asio with Acid ? I'm somewhat confused with audio drivers...

Then you don’t need ASIO drivers. If it was working fine, don’t fix it!

ASIO is really a benefit for recording with low latency. I use a Midiman 2x2 USB on my laptop, and it was impossible to record MIDI because I would press a note and hear the note 50ms later. With the ASIO4ALL driver the delay is down to 11ms. It is possible that the clicking is caused by the buffers being set too small. Increasing them usually corrects this.
