Subject:AP5 doesn't like my plugs

Upon installing the AP5 demo, it scanned plugs and didn't like almost all of my VST plugs. Mostly freeware, some not. It would scan and display "this plugin requires nuendo". I have SX 1.06 on this machine as my primary audio app. After it would display the message, it would fail to load AP5 and just return to my desktop.

I took all of my VST.dll files and moved them to enable me to at least start AP5. What gives?

This is your Steinberg Nuendo VST plug-ins refusing to work with ACID. Apparently, Steinberg codes some of their VST’s so that they only work with their software. (I bet the failed to mention that when they sold them to you).

While you can add paths to the VST search, unfortunately you can’t change the default path. I haven’t tried changing the default path it in the registry, it’s kept here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\ACID Pro\5.0\Metrics\VstCache\SearchPaths\Path 1

Change it at your own risk (although you can always change it back if it doesn’t work) You may need to keep your Nuendo VST’s separate from other VST’s if they don’t allow ACID to load. You should be able to disable them in ACID but if you can’t get ACID to even load then you obviously can’t get to the VST menu to disable them.

Sounds great. I don't use the VST plugs in acid anyway. Any idea on how to mod this key?

Any other ways around this before an update comes along? Other apps don't have this problem.

I suppose you could try changing the value of the key to a directory that you don’t use. This way ACID doesn’t see any VST effects. I’m not sure that the Neundo effects are the problem. They won’t work in ACID but they shouldn’t cause ACID to fail to load. It is quite possible that some other effect is causing this.

My reg doesn't show the last part of that key. AP5 uninstalled now. Guess I'll wait for rev a, b, or whatever.
