Subject:Unable to hear sound in 4.0

I'm a newbie at this, and need some help. I just downloaded XPress 4.0, but am unable to hear any sound when I play a selection (the sound works fine in my other apps).

For example, I right-click and drag a 2.53 MB wave file from a My Documents/Music folder in Explorer to the Track List, choosing One-Shot as the track type. This is a wave file which works in other apps. When I press play, the time and measure/beat curser numbers change, but there's no sound.

The mute button is not off. The volume under the track title is centered. The marker bar has been dragged across the Track View. Still no sound. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

You aren’t doing anything wrong. That’s the way it should work. Check Options > Preferences > Audio and make sure your sound drivers are selected. Also make sure another application isn’t open that has control of the sound card and is not letting go.

Perhaps there is something about the way the wave file is encoded that ACID doesn’t like. Try downloading some of the free loops on ACIDPlanet.com and see if they work. This will tell you if it’s that particular wave file or something about the way ACID is set up on your PC.

Nothing, you're just missing the final step - after you've dropped the file on the track you just need to paint the audio data onto the track at the locations (i.e. times) where you want it to play.

Ouch! Even I didn't see that one. I keep assuming everyone knows to paint the track. Drag-Drop-Paint!

Here's a tip: Use the Paint Tool and hold the CTRL key down and it will paint the entire wave file in one click.

That was it. This is a learning process, but it's working now. Thanks!
