Help!! I upgraded from 4.0e Pro, which I loved! I have no assignable FX when I try to add a FX bus, there is just nothing in the list! I tried using all the utuilities that are packaged for importing plug ins, but they do nothing for this problem. Also when I go to "Options" then "preferences" and make all of my changes, they are not saved and everything is set back to default the next time everything is loaded up. I use the assignable FX, mostly delays, all the time to pass several channels through to the bus...... this is driving me nuts and making me wonder if I wasted my money when 4.0 was working great for me.
I already tried uninstalling-reinstalling 5.0 and removing 4.0. No difference! I also tried installing this on my laptop (2.6Ghz) with the exact same results! I activated/registered this online........ is this some kind of lock from a registration failure or something?
I tried email support...... got nothing back yet. Very dissappointed.

Someone had a problem with saving defaults before and they created a new user account on WinXP and ACID worked from that account. Sometimes your user account gets corrupt. That’s an easy one to try.

Did you install ACID Pro 5.0 into the recommended default directory? (it’s OK to change the C: to D: or whatever, but I wouldn’t mess with the rest of the Sony path). I also upgraded from ACID Pro 4.0e (I never installed 4.0f) and I had no problems. It is quite odd that both PC’s have the same problem. Did you have ACID Pro 4.0e in the Sonic Foundry path? (it should have been). Can other DirectX applications see the plug-ins?

I had a similar problem once. I uninstalled every Sonic Foundry/Sony app and re-installed everything and nothing worked. Then I was told by tech support to uninstall all SoFo/Sony applications AND delete all common directories. That was the problem. Somehow, the plug-ins got messed up and as each application uninstalled, it left the plug-ins for the rest of the applications. The last application never totally deleted them either. Then as I installed each application, it saw the plug-ins (which didn’t work) and skipped over them thinking they were already installed and working. Deleting the common directories was what cleared it up for me.

WARNING: This is a radical procedure. Just because it worked for me doesn’t mean it will work for you. Also you need to re-install the application in the order in which they were released so that old copies of one program are found before new copies update things. I would use this as a last resort. If you do this, I would also delete any SoFo/Sony registry entries too just to be safe. The problem is, a lo of DirectX stuff is spread around the registry so its impossible to totally clean up. Good luck.

Thanks, I will try another user account and see if it does anything. I reinstalled once, but I didn't think to take all products off...... I think I have Sound Forge 6 installed that shares the plug ins, so maybe that is something to think about. I was thinking that it has something to do with having AP4 installed and AP5 not installing the Sony FX plug ins because the SF plug ins were there.
Everything is installed in the default folders, except for the 10gigs worth of loops on another drive. This computer problem ends up sucking in more time that actually mixing the music at times! LOL!

Thanks....will update tonight when I experiment a bit.

Man!!! Thank you!! I made another account and everything was there and preferences can now be saved. Now I just need to figure out why my account on here and my laptop are both hosed, and if I can fix it or if I have to nuke the account and drag my stuff to another user account.

Thanks again....you saved me hours!!

There has been a couple of people with this problem and I’m not sure why. I’m glad I could help.
