How do I get a vocal cut to register on both channels? My mic is hooked up to a pre amp and the preamp is plugged into the right channel input of my soundcard. Under file/properties/format I see where the choice can be made to record in either mono and stereo. I want the vocal to be centered between two channels and I don't want two mics, etc, Surely, there is a way to do this... |

Some soundcard drivers have the ability to link left and right channels. This way you can record one input and have it appear on both channels. My MobilePre USB can do this. You can also record to mono, and then convert it to stereo and set the destination to be both channels. |

Hi, Go ahead and record in mono and then when you have it in SF go to the PROCESS tab and use the CHANNEL CONVERTER which you can use to make a 'copy' into the other channel so you have your stereo..... or maybe use a splitter(Y adapter cables) to make your mono split into left and right inputs to your sound card... If the vocal is going to be used in a multi-track or remain as a single track, record it in mono, you my need a plug adaptor to feed the left input. (usually the "tip" on an unbalanced stereo mini-plug is Left or defaults to mono when only the left input is used, but this varies by manufactor) Conveting mono file to a stereo file will not make a "real" stereo file, (without special processing) it will still be heard as mono, but the file size will be doubled. That said, Another way to covert a mono-to-stereo file. File> Properties> Format> Select: Stereo. Warning: Do not change the sample rate. It's not a rate converter. |
