Some specs:

I'm on a WIN2000 machine with 512 MB of RAM, a fast AMB processor and a nice motherboard. I run sound from an Echo Gina card -> a Mackie mixer -> stereo receiver -> two stereo speakers.

Basically, certain times when I have more than 3-4 tracks cued in ACID, the playback is draggy, or I hear little clicks & pops. Does it sound like a RAM thing, or are there overlapping frequencies that just don't like each other? I have the master volume only set at 60%, so it's not like it's clipping. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

What version of ACID are you using? 3 or 4 tracks shouldn't be much of a problem at all, especially with that kind of config.

Make sure nothing else is running in the background other than what you need. Use the three finger salute (CTRL+ALT+DELETE). Be sure only these services are running:

explorer.exe
LSASS.EXE
mspmspsv.exe
mstask.exe
SERVICES.EXE
SMSS.EXE
SPOOLSV.EXE
stisvc.exe
svchost.exe
System
System Idle Process
taskmgr.exe
WINLOGON.EXE
WinMgmt.exe

Sometimes if you set your latency too low this will not allocate enough buffer space for more tracks. I’ve had this happen where one or two tracks sounded fine but three or four cause cracks and pops. I’ve increased my playback buffer size and the cracks and pops went away. Just something to check.

I'm using ACID 4.0, btw, and all my other programs are closed.

I set the buffer at the maximum, 16,384, but I'm still getting two pops in the exact same two places. Should I have set it *before* recording to eliminate the pops?

In general, where should my ASIO buffer latency be set? Sorry, I'm kind of a newbie on these issues....

I have my ASIO latency set to 5ms. I find that anything less than that causes clicks and pops. It is possible that you recorded the noise. I would listen to the individual waves in the Windows Media Player just to check. If they click and pop all by themselves then you may have recorded the noise in the wave itself.

"I'm still getting two pops in the exact same two places."

Try muting each track to see which (if any) stops the pops/clicks.

Then if you find the track(s), try adjusting the fades on the segments of audio on that track.

Thanks.

So I isolated a track or two, and sure enough the clicks are embedded in individual tracks. So where do these clicks come from? How can I prevent them from occurring during the recording process?

Thanks guys..
