Subject:ACID 4 or ACID 5 ?...

I've been working on a big professional project for about one year now. It's a show (a musical) and I must be ready with twenty-one songs within 2 months. I'm using Acid 4 and I don't intend to upgrade to Acid 5 now, just because I can't afford experiencing bugs and crashes... I would like to advice people who are working on important projects not to upgrade too quickly after a new version is released. It's not specific to Acid, it's true for all software in general. |

I'm working on an album. I began on five, and it took me 2 days off to upgrade all the songs (12 tracks) to 5.0. Indeed, it has bugs that I didn't expect, but I could get around it between these 2 days of work. So my production was slowed down but it is already speeding up (especially with the bus to bus routing, and groove pool). I didn't uninstall Cakewalk VST to DX Adapter though. This is the good part. I'm not forced to do so. In that way I can keep my embedded presets. I'm mostly loosing time by reporting bugs, but that's just a community effort. |

This is good advice for anyone who depends on software to make a living. Never, ever, ever, upgrade ANY software in the middle of a project unless the upgrade fixes a bug that has been preventing you from finishing or adds a feature that you have to have to complete the project. I am always amazed at posts that say, I upgraded to the new release and now my project which is due Friday doesn’t work! Don’t let it be you. Only upgrade between projects when you have some downtime to work on smoothing things out. ~jr |
