I always found the three TRACK DirectX FXs: Compressor, EQ and Noise Gate quite useful to have in SF5. The problem is, in order to get them you need to have VegasLe (or other Vegas) also installed in your PC. I know Vegas is great to have, but I am not doing multitrack recordings in the PC, only the final stereo mastering... I think I finally found a way to activate these FXs without keeping Vegas installed. This is the idea: While VEGAS is installed, copy file sftrkfx1.dll from C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\Audio and save in a spare folder. Uninstall Vegas (you will notice the file is removed from ...Shared Plug-Ins\Audio). Open SF AND the temp folder where the spare file sftrkfx1.dll is saved. keeping both open on the screen, just DRAG sftrkfx1.dll from the folder to SF. A message asking if you want to register the Fx in SF appears and we just click YES. Please could any SF representative inform if this would spoil SF in any way? It seems to be working fine... The only thing I do not get is the help to work properly, but I guess if I copy sftrkfx1.chm and sftrkfx1.hlp to C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\Help Files I sould get them to work as well. Makes sense? Thanks, JTelles |

That would probably work, and I can't see how it would corrupt Sound Forge in any way. But if you have Sound Forge 5.0, Vegas LE is included, so I guess I don't understand why you would want to take all of these extra steps instead of just leaving Vegas LE installed. Ted |

Glad to know.. I do not leave VegasLe installed because on principle I avoid installing programs that I do not need to use. But then, that is me... Thanks for the information, JTelles |

Thanks for this post, although it's old it solved my problem. I had SF 5.0 which I was using until I built a new computer and switched to SF 7.0 and found my sweepable EQ was now a non-functioning DEMO. I thought it was supposed to be part of Sound Forge, don't know why it wouldn't be since they consider it a professional product. Will go try installing the Vegas LE.... Thanks, Tom |
