Subject:AP5.0 Too Much Scanning!

Hey there. I purchased AP5.0 and am really happy with most things(so far), but why does Ap5.0 "scan" for plug-ins EVERYTIME it starts. This takes a loooong time! Is this an issue that anybody else is having?, Is there a setting that I need to change? So far this is the most irritating issue that I have found....so far. I haven't really put it {AP5} through any serious paces.

Please let me know if I can get Acid to load more quickly. Thanks, luceses

Do you have Media Manager checked off?
Oprions-> Preferences -> General tab. Uncheck "Enable Media Manager"

See if this improves your start up time.

Sorry. My mistake-- turning MM off won't help. I don't know why you rescan for plug-ins, maybe someone else can help.

Not sure if this is the right answer - but do you have Cubase installed on your machine?

Yes. I have Cubase SE(the poor man's Cubase). I notice that Cubase also intitializes and scans for plugs, but it does it a LOT faster than AP5.0. Is there some type of setting or folder switch I should make? Luceses

I also have Cubase SX 3 installed, but I don't believe this problem is related to Cubase. I have removed the Cubase directory from Acid's vst search paths (even renamed it from "Vstplugins" to "plugins" to avoid any issues), but after each windows re-boot, Acid rescans all plugins in the VSTplugin directory I have set up purely for Acid (no other hosts). Shut down and restart Acid without rebooting Windows, Acid does not re-scan plugins.

I have basically narrowed down the problem. It is SampleTank 1.1 Whenever I open a Cubase project or an old AcidPro4.0e
project that contains an instance of SampTank and then I open AP5, AP5 will run through the scan. If I close AP5 and then open it again without opening any other program it will load much quicker and not scan for every plugin. I know that SampTank is the culprit because, if I open a Cubase project or an AP4.0 project that does NOT contain an instance of SampTank and then open AP5.0, the start up time is very normal. This does not occur with SampTank 2 LE nor any other VSTi's that I have. My SampTank 1.1 is located in my C:\Programs\VSTPlugins folder as well as all of my other VSTi's, except for my SampTank 2LE and my SampTank 2 free. These are located in their own discrete folders in the Programs folder.

Hello,

Mine rescans too after a windows reboot, and the Cubase plug-ins fail all the time. If I restart Acid 5 without rebooting it won't rescan. I hope someone can figure this out because is a pain to have Acid rescan plug-ins all the time.

Edit: I don't have Sample Tabk 1.1, I have Sample Tank 2LE, although I don't know how to use it yet.

Reason I asked: have you added the Cubase VST plugin folder as an alternative scan path in Acid? Acid has a default path of \Steinberg\VST plugins. When I added the real path (\Steinber\Cubase SL\VST plugins) as an alternative, I was able to get it to stop rescanning.

Run regedit and look for this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST

What is the VSTPluginsPath set to?

This is how ACID determines the default path for VSTs, as specified by the VST SDK.

Sounds to me like Steinberg are breaking their own rules and using their private directory which contains plugins that only work in their apps.

We are looking into it.

Thanks
Peter

C:\ProgramsFiles\VSTPlugins

This is what is shown in my Registry.

I am still convinced that SampTank 1.1 is my problem. Like I said, this scan issue ONLY happens when I run ANY instance of SampTank in ANY other program as well as AP5.
