What gives?

I was using SF7.0b, went to process some samples with Wave Hammer, then I hear these "BEEPS", "BOOPS" and "BLIPS".
After I realized the Wave Hammer plugin had reverted to the DEMO version, I was furious and gave up the project for the moment. Then, here it is a day later, and I couldn't change it back. I did try loading SF 6.0, and Wave Hammer worked just fine (arrgghhh!!).

Can ANYONE tell me how to switch the darned Wave Hammer program back to the version I PAID for? I would appreciate it very much.

(Sony/Sonic Foundry, has GOT to do better than this, in my opinion. Something about the way plugins work with this program, really bugs me at times.) Things like this, make me want to switch to WaveLab (or something).

I've pasted below my own post from earlier this month re: wave hammer weirdness!
I also had trouble with using the 'volume', noise reduction, and dynamics effects till I gave up and reinstalled SF 7.0b. I've had lots of other things go weird since installing SP2 (messed up my Vegas 4.0 as well) which I suspect is the culprit.
As per another post which suggested that SP2 will take numerous reboots to finally get settled in, the different problems seem to finally be resolving with the reboots. I now reboot after every recording, etc.
I've had to defrag hard drives that hadn't even been used since SP2! It really seemed to 'scramble over easy' my data, and system scans, defragging, and numerous reboots seem to finally have fixed all these unexpected changes. And in the case of SF7.0b I had to reinstall to finally get my 'wave hammer' back. Hope that helps you get yours back too!
Good Luck,
Teaktart

As per my post in Sound Forge forum.....after installing SP2 my wave hammer was not working right. It was now a 'demo' and made loud electronic bleeps in the region I processed. I uninstalled and reinstalled SF7.0b and the 'demo' part is gone and the audio bleeps are gone as well although I still have an issue with the waveform being off the DC axis.

I think this is associated with the SP2. I've had numerous weird glitches since installing that piece of $#%%^^^$!!!! as it seemed to scramble 'over easy' my data in several different drives and has affected both my Sound Forge and my Vegas 4.0. I hesitate to open my Acid....who knows what I'll find next!
Good Luck,
Teaktart

There was a fairly common case of SP2 not getting installed correctly and the warning being fairly ignorable by a number of users with problems. See this link for more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888162

No, my PC is only 2 months old, and Windows is definitely loaded properly. (No error messages...etc.)

I am using XP Pro.

One development in all of this, seems to be that when SF 6.0 is loaded (AFTER SF7.0b installed), the problem corrects itself (for how long, I don't yet know).

This is a workaround, for a problem that really shouldn't be happening. That is, a bug fix should have been announced or offered. I shouldn't have seen this software problem, and not been notified. I never saw this problem with SF7.0, and now I'm sorry I lost that disk.

I apologize if this shows up twice. I've had success with two approaches to this problem. The first is in the ReadMe file.

Go to Start/Programs/Sony Utilities and run the Migration tool.

If that doesn't work, head to the Support section and look at the FAQs for the Activation Codes topic. Get a new Activation Code (and keep a record of it). Between the two, I've always been able to get things going again after I've made a change somewhere on my computer and Sound Forge, Vegas, or CD Architect has exhibited this problem.

cefshah

any luck with your wave hammer?

Do you know if your new computer has the Service Pack 2 installed? Check your Start/Settings/Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs to look for the SP2 update...
If so, I would reinstall your SF 7.0b and that may clear it up and give you back your full wave hammer function. If you don't have the SF 7.0 disk in hand maybe a call to Sony support could get you what you need if they can verify you are a registered owner of the software.
My problems cleared up with a reinstall of the original 7.0 and then I went to the Sony website for the update to 7.0b and now the software is working correctly again.
Last night I gave up on all kinds of misfunctions with my Vegas 4.0e and did a reinstall and all the functions are back to normal.
I still blame the SP2 for messing up both of these programs, but am glad a simple reinstall solved the problems.
Good Luck,
Teaktart

Sony has not been able to reproduce this in-house. Can you provide the version information in the WaveHammer About box when it shows up in demo mode?

It has been about two weeks since I mentioned it to Sony; nothing back yet.

Right now and since I reloaded SF 6.0 (Build 132), Wave Hammer works faithfully in ver. 7.0b.

The version info that shows up in my "about" window on Wave Hammer reads: Version. 1.0a (Build 197); not presently in demo mode; and the version information is exactly the same when I open Wave Hammer in SF 6.0 (Build 132).

I was also thinking that Sony might not be reproducing the problem, if they have SF 6.0, or some components of it residing within their PC's.

And the strange thing, is that the program didn't exhibit this problem for over a month of computing with SF 7.0b

The question I have is:

What is DIFFERENT about the Wave Hammer files on the 6.0 (Build 132) Sound Forge disk, as compared to the 7.0b disk?

teakart,

I've uninstalled/reloaded the program, and run the migration tools many times (7X plus); no help.

Also, I ran SF 7.0 for many months with SP-2 installed; it was when I purchased a replacement for my lost disk and installed 7.0b, that this problem became evident.

You got me stumped!
Are you saying that at the moment you have it working? I hope so....

I put a question to sony support weeks ago and never heard back beyond the auto response.....very poor service! I am not impressed....Sonic Foundry at least bothered to respond in a day or two. I miss that and refuse to pay for a simple response to one or two questions....Does Sony expect us all to pay for a simple answer?????

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by migrating tools..... I thought all the stuff came with a basic installation of the software.

hi,

i got this response from tech support, followed it and it worked...it might work for you too

Hello,

Thanks for writing, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Make sure that you do not have any previous version of Sound Forge installed currently. Uninstall Sound Forge 7.0. After you do this, delete the following directories (if they remain):

C:\Program Files\Sony\Sound Forge

C:\Program Files\Sony Setup\Sound Forge

After you've deleted these folders, go to Start/Run and type regedit, then click the "OK" button. Delete the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\Sound Forge\7.0

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\Sound Forge\7.0

Also make sure that there are no Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 7.0 registry keys still there. They would be:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sonic Foundry\Sound Forge\7.0

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Sonic Foundry\Sound Forge\7.0

then reinstall 7.0b

So, really, what is the advantage to installing the upgrade to 7.0b? I've seen no information on why it is necessary.

For one thing, it fixes the multiband dynamics filter.

Hmmm...I think N.I. Waves has a better version of that filter, anyway.
