Subject:WANTED! Melodic Sample Project and the SONY Free Loops and Samples.

I want a good sample ACID5 project so I can see how they are put together. Not like the one with the program which is all percussion and electronic rythem, but a complex sample with melody and chords that sounds like soft/light/classical and not rock, new agem or electronic. Can someone direct me as all the web searches I have done all got to rock licks and percussion.

Also I downloaded and worknig with demo now. How can I get the CD of the free loops and samples? I have nothing to experiment with!

There are loads of free samples on ths Sony site. Just look at each of the loop libraries. Also try the contests and the 8-packs.

For the complex melodic/chord stuff, I think you are better off with a MIDI sequencer - Acid is not like that.

As long as you have the right material, you should be able to compose a project that sounds "light" or new age-like.

I did a few mellow projects for a client some time back. Do you want to hear a couple of them?

I agree with Iacobus, you can create any kind of music in ACID as long as you have the right loop libraries. Go to the Sony Loop Library page and select Browse by Genre to get to the style of music you are looking for. Then click on the Loop Libraries themselves and each one will offer about 6 samples. Download those samples as WAV files and you should get a pretty good idea of what you can make. You can get at least an entire CD of free samples doing it this way.

I listened to your samples this morning and while they were very well done they sound like "Intros" or "Backgrounds" - they make me feel like they need a change of key and a melody riding above them. Is ACID not he right tool for this? Or should I add my own melody with the SoftSyth?

I have the Sony samples and several of the "8Packs" but nothing like I'm looking for. Let me give you an example - did you see the Sony HDVcam demo clip posted here in the Vegas video forum? - listen to the music and that is what I am after making

Thanks,

Mike S

Those were, indeed, background-type samples.

Do you have a link to that demo clip? I'm having a hard time finding it.

Yes guys, you are right - it *is* possible to make any kind of music in Acid - but if the orchestral and cinematics stuff is not hitting the spot, then I suspect our friend wnats to have more control over the underlying structure - counterpoint, key changes etc, not just the "all tracks transpose" functionality that Acid is good at. That spells MIDI to me - of course Acid can do MIDI, and the new MIDI features are pretty good for loop creation. But the whole idea of loops is not really conducive to the classical counterpoint structure - even if it can be done, I think I would be looking at something like Cubase SE.

Don't get me wrong, I love Acid ...

Very nice. There are a few ways of achieving such a thing. One is to have a sound bed with a recorded melodic line on top of it. (Digital audio or MIDI.) ACID has the ability to change keys to create interest too. (MIDI remains unaffected by key stretching.)

Thanks. Your Forever is fantastic and I now know the sort of limits to which I can strive with ACID. The trick I guess is to mix it up, and avoid these loops becoming boring and repeditive like Philip Glass. I'm off to practice on the music.

Lacobus:

Last nite I downloaded the days 30_300 and have got quite a tuneful piece. I wish we could post Acid files here so you could hear it. Thanks for your help.

You can publish it to ACIDPlanet.com and then we can all hear it.

Try: File > Publish...
