Subject:Acid 5 startup issues

For some reason, it looks like Acid 5 is trying to initialize all the available DX and/or VST plugins on startup. On my system, it crashes either during, or after doing so.

I can't get past the splash screen.

Any ideas?

i have another issue :

while starting , a message pops up saying :
"error while loading <application path> , module could not be found"
( screenshot (german OS): http://www.s-production.de/images/acid/acid_rundll.JPG )
which makes acid not show any asio or rewire devices - which means i can't test it thoroughly .
btw. this is with the default installation path ! (also , why can't acid be installed next to my existing acid 4 pro ??? regardless of which folder i choose it says there are conflicts )

berklee ,

try to move the plugins in your vstplugins folder to a temporary location and see if acid will startup afterwards and then change the vstplugins path in acid's setup .

Thanks for the tip.

Looks like SampleTank is the culprit.

thanks for the reply ... i forgot to say that i have my "sony shared plugins" folder (the one you setup with acid 4) or whatever it's called inside my acid 4 directory and i think that's what pisses off the installer of acid 5.

*bump* for the well more critical flaw with the error message .

"Looks like SampleTank is the culprit."

I use sample tank 2xl 2.08,, I can start acid and use st without any problems.Seems a bit slow , ST is a large vsti, I can record and it seems to function better with each opening of a project,,, still early to tell though. I've got all 8 disks installed in ST.

using XP sp1 on a gateway laptop 512 ram ,,tascam us -428 sound device ,, Asio is functioning better and re-wire has been solid with Sonar3 and Sx3.

Plastique,

I can't seem to reproduce your problem, but I would suggest uninstalling and re-installing ACID 5 to the default location. You should not be able to install ACID 5's shared plug-ins to the same directory as ACID 4's, but if you have somehow managed to do this it could definitely cause errors.

Thanks,
Steve

I've had some of these issues, what I did was rather then ending the load at the prompt, I just let Acid continue to load. After the first load with Error Messages I haven't had a problem.

The SONY install instructions clearly emphasise using the DEFAULT FOLDERS.

it didn't make a difference , same error message every startup of acid 5 .
at least the asio and rewire devices were accessible this time .

scanning for vsti the first time then gave me a spontaneous reboot of my system (that's a thing i haven't had with any audio application yet before !! at least after 2002 ) even that i have error reporting enabled on my xp pro it took the machine down (can't you catch errors in your code ???).
after rebooting i scanned again but it instantly gives me an error message ( http://www.s-production.de/images/acid/acid_vsti.JPG ) and takes acid down .

i have the impression this version is built upon the code of acid 4 and therefore i get these deja-vue effects of it being unstable when it gets to vsti scanning .

sorry to say , i'm loosing interest , and i maybe will test again a version without bugs but for now TBH i don't have interest to be betatesting an unfinished application .

Try moving all your vst's and pluggins from their existing folder to a backup folder. Then try loading Acid5, if it loads the problem is in your pluggin folder. You can then start moving your vst's and pluggins a couple at a time back in the original folder and do an Acid restart till you find the culprit.

been there , done that.
i'm not moving anything - i have four applications that depend on this folder (including acid 4) and LOTS of projects depending on the plugins in there . the plugins work FINE !!!

if acid 5 can't handle them - keep it Sony , i don't want it .

for 150 $ i can expect improvements can't i ???
and not the same as last version just in a new dress .

Can you give us a list of the VST effects you have installed? That might help us figure out what's going wrong here.

Thanks,
Steve

Ive had the same exact problem. Managed to get AP 5 up once in about 40 tries. Definitely locking up while scanning the plugins and sampletank does appear to be a problem. But it has errored out on various vstis. Sent Sony support an email a week ago and got no response. At this point I'd pretty much given up, so if you guys figured this out lemme jnow lol.

I can't get past the initial splash screen either. Actually I can, if I rename the VST directory so that Acid doesn't see it. I started moving VSTs back and forth between the VST directory and a VST backup directory. Unfortunately this retriggers all sorts of copy protection formats and became so messy that I've had to put off using Acid for now! I figure it will be easier to wait for an update that fixes this. Does anyone know which VSTs Acid can't handle?
