I had this problem already with ACID 4 PRo and gave up. Now I'm on a new computer. Everything clean installed. Downloaded Acid 5 Pro today. (No other ACID version was installed on this machine prior) Everytime I change something within the preferences, on re-launch of ACID it's all at the default settings again. This is freaking me out!! When I look up the preferences before quitting ACID all the changes I made are still there. Then I quit and launch ACID and it's all gone. I can't work that way! I spoke with Sony support and they could not help me. They are aware of this problem for some time but don't have a solution. They said I should create a new user account. Well, I did that and I have to agree it worked. But I can not work from another user account. All the other software I have (which took me a whole week to install) is on the main account. It will not work on the new user account. I have 500MB of software. We are a professional SSL equipped recording studio. I have to check my email from the main account etc. By switching to another account I will lose all my authorizations and we talk at least 50 here. I HAVE to work from my main account. What Sony suggested is not an option! They just chose an easy way out. The fact is: Something is wrong with ACID and it's not that something is wrong with my machine. Something is causing ACID do revert to the deafult preferences everytime I launch it. It's Sony's responsibility to look into that. In their opinion the problem was solved with suggesting to work from a different user account. They must be kidding! This is the second time I spent more $150 on an upgrade and can not use it. Enough is enough! I also don't know why they charge EU VAT for people from the UK. I'm a VAT registered business and can not re-claim the VAT. They should provide VAT-free deliveries for VAT registered businesses. Steve RME London |

I found the solution!! You have to go into the registry. Within the registry go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ and find the Sony Media Software folder. Right click on that folder and choose Permissions. Make sure Everyone, System, and your username are all listed in the box at the top. If they are not there, add them. Make sure all of those entries have Full Control set to Allow. Click Ok and try ACID again. After I found that out I also received an email from Sony's tech support that confirmed that. There is some hope for Sony's support after all! ;-) Let's hope they tell their people on the phones, because they had no clue. Man, am I glad this is solved. It was driving me mad for ages! Steve |
