Just bought the Pro 5.0 and was wondering why I had to download a large .net file from Microsoft before I could install the new Acid. What does the .net file do to Acid and my PC?

Hello,

My guess would be that this is used to help the media manager to comunicate on the net. It wont hurt your computer but it might change the way you log into windows, here's a site that tells how to fix this.

I don't know enough to answer your question with any deep technical description but as I understand .net is basically a software framework that helps apps work.

For instance I had to download .net when I bought Vegas 4.0, or else the scripting functions that you can use in Vegas won't run.

From that, I can only assume Sony wrote something into Acid 5.0 that needs the .net backbone to run.

hahahaha--one of that may have helped you, but in short, .net is ok, it won't harm anything and is necessary for Acid 5.0 to run, or at least some part or feature of Acid 5.0.
