Can someone exlplain to me the new feature "enhanced time stretching and beat detection"???

Does this simply mean that it will determine and change tempos more accuately?? I find Beatmapper now to be fairly accurate, but I still have to chop up the 32 beat intros/outros alot when Im beatmatching songs. Even when I have two songs are looped perfectly they still are off a lot of times. Anyone have any tips for getting ACID and Beatmapper more accurate??

I would imagine the time stretching and beat detection in ACID Pro 5 works like the original algorithm used in previous versions but is slightly enhanced. It should do a better job than it did previously in other versions.

JohnnyRoy could probably help you more here with the beatmatching than I could. I can tell you there are many factors as to why your Beatmapped tracks drift.

One is simple human error as we're not metronomes ourselves and the recordings reflect that. Another is the recording itself, especially if it was originally analog and not as precise as the digital formats nowadays.

It’s not the beatmapper that is inaccurate. The beatmapper is dead accurate, it’s us humans that are inaccurate. Our ears will compensate for being a little off the beat but over time, the amount gets longer and longer until its obvious to us that something is not right. Also, unless the recording was made to a click track, it will drift over time no matter how accurately you beatmap it.

Tip 1: Get the downbeat right. If you start the measures a little early or late, it might not be noticeable for a few measures until it drifts enough to be heard. Make small changes and see how it affects the rest of the song.

Tip 2: In step 3 of the beatmapper you can check your accuracy by going out a few measures to see if the points you selected are still on the beat. If not, go back and adjust the duration of a measure and check again

Some songs won’t beatmap well because they just don’t have a steady tempo. The musicians sometimes speed up or slow down. For those difficult songs, it is easier to use Sound Forge to time stretch each measure.

Iacobus and I have a chapter on beatmapping in our new book Instant ACID where we explain how to do this. Unfortunately, its not available yet but you can pre-order it on amazon.com.
