Subject:Is there a way to adjust the quality when beatmapping a track that requires a pitch shift?

I notice when I beatmap a song and the original tempo needs to be changed by a few bpm's there is a significant loss of quality compared to the song being played at it's original tempo. In sound forge, there is a high/low quality option when pitch shifting a track. Is there a similar setting somewhere in acid that will make the beatmapper pitch shift with better quality when batmapping a track? Has anyone else noticed this?

Try going into the Beatmapped track's properties and under the General tab, check the option, "Preserve pitch when stretching."

I do not wish to preserve pitch.

If you UNcheck the box that mD was referring to in the Track Properties window for the track ACID will use a simple sample rate shift/resample to change the tempo of the track. This will not preserve the pitch of the beatmapped track and will behave as you wish, like adjusting the pitch control on a turntable.

Nate, I just checked back on this thread and was happy to see you responded. I understand completely how to preserve pitch or not when beatmapping. My problem is, either way, there is a significant loss of audio quality (mainly high end) when beatmapping. If I compare the beatmapped version of the audio sample to the orginal version there is a BIG loss of quality.

I noticed when you use one of the pitch shift effect options it actaully has a "quality" setting (low to high). Does the beatmapper not use a high quality setting when pitch shifting to beatmap a track?

Any solution to this? I record my samples to perfection in Sound Forge then ACID kills the quality.

If SF can make better quality tempo changes than BM, get the tempo from BM>UNDO>open the file in SF>change the tempo>SAVE>open the saved file in ACID as as a OneShot.

If there are extreme tempo changes involved, there isn't any amount of magic that any app can do when digital audio is timestretched/pitch shifted, as artifacts become more apparent, especially when the tempo or key is far from the original tempo or key.

The pitch change is very small. Usually within a tenth of the original bpm. The quality loss is evident immediately after beatmapping. Even if you keep the original tempo, the pitch of some segments of the beatmapped track must be manipuated to keep it in time. It is not a huge loss of quality, but enough that I must eq the track a bit to compensate for the high end that I loss.

Again, my main question is, is there a way to adjust the algorithm used by acid when beatmapping a track that requires some pitch shifting? In Sound Forge there is a "quality" setting for pitch shifting. I'm wondering if there is a similar setting to adjust the quality of the pitch shifting done by the beatmapper in Acid.
