Subject:Fav new feature in ACID Pro 5-ReWire Slave

One of my favorite new features in ACID Pro 5 has to be it's ability to be a rewire slave. Putting ACID Pro 5's superior loop arranging/editing capabilites, inside a DAW like SONAR 4, is a powerful evolution, in the 6 year history of ACID Pro. Admittedly, I have only tried it in SONAR 4, but the implementation, is stellar and well done, IMO. In my use, both S4 & A5, play very well together and I have yet to have any performance related issues, lockups or crashes. When you go to A5's Preferences Audio tab, in rewire slave mode, you will see under "Audio Device type": "Rewire Device Driver". Click on the "Advanced" button and you can increase the number of exposed ports available to your rewire host. You will need to close and then re-open ACID before the ports are exposed to the host app. You can have as many as 26 exra stereo and 32 mono ports that you can send A5's Buses to. I have a SONAR 4/ACID Pro 5 rewire project where I have (7) ACID 5 Buses open in S4. Between S4 & A5 you have a lot of mixing/busing flexibility at your disposal. One neat thing that took me by surprise was when I took a double take at ACID's Mixer properties considering, with this project, I am using a laptop with a 16 bit sound card and working in a 16/44 S4 project: ACID Pro 5 Mixer Properties: 44,100 Hz, 32 bit. Wow, 32 bit......then I realized that SONAR uses a 32 bit floating point mix engine and it seems that in rewire slave mode A5 Pro is working in S4's 32 bit fp mix environment. Anyway here is a .jpg of ACID Pro 5, working like a softsynth, rewired to SONAR 4. See how both S4 & A5 are in playing in lock step, in loop mode. The transport controls, in both apps, respond as if they are one and the same. So you can be working, in either app and both remain, in tight sync, with each other, at all times.

You betcha, I could not be happier, with the way Sony, has stepped up to the plate and delivered a first class rewire slave implementation, that really works well and is extremely stable. Now two of my favorite apps working harmoniously in tandem :))))))))))))))))))))))))))

hey billy, are you still using the beta or is this full release?

i got asked to participate in the beta but didn't jump in time.

now my ISP changed my email and i'm not getting the messages for registered users. i sent something to customer service, but i don't think changes have been made in my contact info.

i want acid 5 sooo bad.

if they send out a $99 upgrade email like they did for AP4 and i don't get it, i'm going to be really pissed.

hey billybk,

does ACID still have all the regular features when it's running in Slave mode, or are certain things (fx, eq-ing etc) now controlled by the Host application?

I have not tested every single ACID 5 Pro function, while in rewire slave mode, but most of the functions I have tried in ACID work as expected while in rewire slave mode. At least, in my use, with SONAR 4 as the rewire host.
Several notable exceptions are the tempo control (this is controlled by the host app) and you cannot use non-inplace plugins. If you have non-inplace plugins already, on a bus or track insert, in an ACID rewire slave project, the relevant effects button will turn RED and will be disabled. There are far more inplace plugins than non-inplace plugins - including VSTs, so it should not affect most plugins. For instance, I can't use my UAD-1 plugins (they are non in-place) in ACID, while it is in rewire slave mode. You can still use them in your host app though. Like you can use ACID's transport controls to control SONAR and vice versa. You can adjust the loop points on the ACID timeline and SONAR will automatically match it's start and end loop points and vice and versa. You can audtion from the Loop Explorer, drap & drop loops, paint loops, all the normal ediitng functions like slice, join, create fades, use envelopes, use the Chopper, create track folders, rename tracks and so on.
