Just make an extra DVD for your archive. You can burn another using either the disc or its files as a master.

Not sure what you mean. You can use DVDA to burn a copy of your mpeg2 encoded movies and then I believe you could extract the files from the dvd if you needed to. There's also Nero if you just want to make a copy of a dvd- so long as it's not copy protected. But that doesn't seem to be a problem in your case.

If it's not copy protected you can you Roxio, or just copy the files to a directory and use it as a source for DVD Architect.

very silly of me. Yes now I understand. I have NERO SE that came with my sony external DVD drive. I will use that to burn. thanks guys.

Don't forget about DVDShrink, freeware. It has come in real handy for me going back to older DVDs and remaking them again, not to mention re-authoring quickly. And yes, that's all I use it for.
