I am using Acid and a sound blaster external soundcard - when I record the audio from a dvd (which is playing through my computer, but the audio is running through a dj mixer) it allows me to and I get good levels - BUT when I try to record a record (the turntable is running through the same dj mixer) I get no levels? please help!!! |

Just curious, do the output level meters on the mixer show the same levels in both cases? Have you tried connecting the output of the mixer to an amp and speakers (or at least headphones) to see if signal flows from the turntable? |

Hmm. So it goes like this: turntable>mixer>Sound Blaster? How is everything connected together? (Cables and connections specifically.) Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |

all connected by rca cables. rca out of turntable into phono on the mixer, then out of the mixer booth output to soundblaster. the thing that makes no sense is that the DVD player in my computer is running out of the output of my soundblaster and into a channell on the mixer and I get a level fine and it records great BUT if i unplug the dvd player from that input and hook up a cd player in the same input there is no level. Also, on the soundcard there is a headphone monitor, so if I monitor the turntable or cd player in the monitor, I can hear them both loud and clear...so it seems the sound is coming out the mixer into the soundcard... please help. |

AH-HA! This is purely a guess, but i feel pretty confident about it. Not only does the sound from the DVD player feed out through the line out of the card, but it also feeds into the card's internal mixer. When you are recording from the DVD you probably aren't getting signal from the mixer at all. The card is probably recording directly from the DVD drive's cable rather than from it's line input jack. Quick test: when recording from the DVD, does adjusting the faders on the mixer make any difference in the level of the signal being recorded? I bet it won't. You'll have to go into the sound card's mixer input control panel (double click on the little speaker icon, click Properties / Recording / OK). Now you can select the line input instead of the CD/DVD input. |
