hello, i have a big question i hope you can answer. I play in a band and we just finished our album but twe don't like the final mater completely. The problem is that it sounds a little too low compared to other records. I would like to make my own master with sound forge but i don't know the process very well. the mix is perfect so theres no need to eq or arrange any frequency thing, the only problem is the volume, i want it to sound as loud as other records so it doesnt sound like a demo but without cliping or distorition. I would really a prreciate if you could tell me how to do this entire process,, which effects or proces to use and its parameters. i thank you very much in advance for your help. my sound forge version is 4.5 |

Normalization and perhaps some Compression will get you where you need to be. The settings will vary depending on your source material and desired results, so I can't help you there. |

No matter how much advice I've given users on mastering, Sometimes I just have to laugh at this question. People are always asking the question, "what are the steps in mastering?". The part I find funny is that nobody ever asks, "what are the steps in mixing?" It's like mastering is this mystical step where if someone laid it out for you in logical steps then everyone could do it using those same steps. How about this, I'll give you the steps to mastering if you can give me every step you took in mixing your last song? |

I wouldn't call it mastering but if you're looking for more volume try messing around Wave Hammer inside Sound Forge. There are some presets you can start with. |

Izotope (sorry, you'll have to track it down yourself - I'm too lazy) have a good tutorial available on their site. Obviously orientated towards Ozone, but advice translates to all plugins/hardware. geoff |

Voila. To be honest, mastering is not an easy thing to do. I'll tell you one thing, though: Don't compress your mix to death. You want to massage the sound, not overkill it. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page Guitars 4 Kids |
