Subject:Terratec Soundcard

Hi all
I'm thinking of upgrading my soundcard to a 24 bit model (currently using a (gulp!) Soundblaster Audigy, which only records in 16 bit) - I've found a good offer for the Terratec DMX6 Fire (price c. £125) - has anyone heard good/bad things about this card, especially when used with Acid/Soundforge? Are there any others in the price range £100-£199 that do a better job?
Any comments welcome.
Thanks
LD

I think you can get M-Audio's Audiophile 2496 for around $100 USD (~55 pounds) now. Echo's MiaMIDI (my choice) goes for around $170 to $199 but does have 1/4" TRS (balanced) I/O too.

I actually have both cards. They both perform well but I'd give the edge to the MiaMIDI, especially in regards to Sound Forge. (The drivers for the Audiophile don't play too well with Sound Forge unless you fiddle with options.)

Iacobus' suggestions are really good ones IF you don't plan on mixing in surround. I've heard Terratec's drivers are so-so at best. Then again people say that about M-Audio, and my Firewire 410 works very well.
The new Echo Gina 3G seems really nice and is surround capable if you ever want to go that route. A little more money, but...

I've also heard that some new soundcards have phantom power for condenser mics - anyone used these with Acid? I use an AKG C1000s for most of my acoustic/vocal recording, and always worry about the sound quality decreasing over time cos it's running on a 9V battery. I suppose the other option might be to get a digital mixer with phantom power to link in to the soundcard, but then the costs start mounting up.... Not sure what the best option is on a budget. Any ideas?

Actually, further to my last post, I've found the following soundcards that (I think!) include phantom power:
m-audio omni studio for £259
m-audio firwire 410 for £258

Anyone got any info on using these with Acid Pro?
Many thanks for your help.

Reread my post above. Yes my 410 works well.
Although, I haven't used it much for recording so far.
The folks on the Vegas audio forum that have them also like them.

I have Delta 66 Omni Studio and Audiophile2494, have had no problems recording using Acid. Altho these days I primarly use Cubase SX when recording, I have no problem when using either of my M-Audio cards...Level Vibes
