This thing could be EXTREMELY useful to a video guy like me if the envelope recording can be made to work.

Sorry, could I just confirm that you've tried the plug without success re. recording the envelope, but the meter output worked (if a little strangely)?

Thanks
ibliss wrote on 10/15/2004, 6:52 PM
PS. Yeah, I too thought it would be v useful for sync'd video effects etc
farss wrote on 10/15/2004, 11:09 PM
I haven't tried it but as it looks SO useful I'll give it a go and get back to you. Might take a few days, production pipeline is kind of in meltdown! This used to be a hobby, now it only lets me sleep a few hours a day.

Holy CRAP the ultimate ducker!!!!!!!!!!

this is a good year for plugins

It does work well. I copied the envelope over to an EQ plug and got an auto-wah effect going. Also cool for reverb effects: dynamically controlling room size and decay time, for example. Very cool, I imagine a more usefull application would be for dynamics though, maybe this is a way to 'link' compressors on different tracks!? (would be an interesting thing to investigate)

It made me realize that Vegas needs some more control in it's envelope manipulation, sure you can cut/paste and move groups of points around, but there needs to be a scale feature and maybe a switch to make it operate 'logarithmic' rather then 'linear' all the time, or a sort of envelope compressor or range control so that what you see on-screen better represents what you are controlling. A small point, yes... maybe there's an easy scripting solution to this.

Hello,

I might have a fix for your problem with vegas, but since I do not have the software I cannot test. (it works very well with other software so this is just a "guess" about what Vegas behavior could be...). Are you interested in beta-testing the correction?

By the Way a new version enabling the user to tweak the output envelope is in work...

PipelineAudio wrote on 10/21/2004, 4:11 PM
the scaling idea is a very good one!

I have a temporary work around. Grab the whole envlope and push it up or down, you can squash the maxes and mins that way

thank you for joining us bluecat! Very good idea of a plugin
Youn wrote on 10/21/2004, 4:23 PM
Another work around, though obvious to some of us, is to use a compressor in chain prior to this plug.

I noticed that the plugin has to be visible or else the envelops won't write. And you have to check either "OUT::VU Meter" options, not the other ones.

OH! To add to Pipeline's comment (or maybe this is what he meant) If you copy the envelope to a Volume envelope, it will scale up and down proportionally - this is great, just what I was looking for! Just cut and paste to your desired controller!

Thanks again for this plugin! Look forward to future developments!
bluecat wrote on 10/21/2004, 10:27 PM
the "Vu-Meter" parameter is what is seen by the user and thus only works if the GUI is visible. The right way to have it work is to use the "Envelpope R" or "L" parameters.

But it seems Vegas does not really support these params recording. I may have a fix to bypass Vegas strange behavior consequences, I'll upload the new version on the web site but before I'd like to have it beta tested so can one of you send me his email address so that I can send him the new version?

I have yet been able to get it to work with Vegas. I'll try some more tonight.
SckidMarq wrote on 10/22/2004, 6:40 PM
I was able to get it working. It is very cool. As far as scaling goes I wonder if BlueCat could add some parameters defining the lowest and highest outputs for the meter. Say a setting that you could set to -6db as the lowest reading allowed and -3db would be the highest output allowed. It seems like you would be left with an envelope pattern that fluctuates no more than 3db.
farss wrote on 10/23/2004, 1:25 AM
Now if the envelope can be copied to a video track that'll be very interesting.

i gues I should offer myself as a beta tester seeing as I started the thread!

Also thanks to Bluecat for finding this thread and repsonding :)

I have bad news for you guys...

I could download a demo version of Vegas that so that I can test how that stuff works. And I have not been able to find a solution to have Vegas work with envelope generation that is not made in GUI (sounds crazy but that's true).

BUT I may have a workaround: in this case you will have to have the plugin GUI enabled to record all envelopes. Would that be OK for you? It will be a temporary limitation until I can find a true solution.

I'll try to contact Vegas developers to see why they have such limitations...

farss wrote on 10/27/2004, 5:02 AM
I don't see that as a major limitation.

Hey Guys, the new versions are out!

Digital Peak Meter 1.1 now works with Vegas, you can record other stuff than the Vu-Meter envelope provided that the GUI is active.

And for only 5 euro (yes guys, could not keep all this stuff free given the amount of donations...), you can get the "Pro" version with which you can reverse the envelope, choose the amount of signal or even offset the envelope.

I hope this will satisfy you!
PipelineAudio wrote on 10/31/2004, 4:39 PM
AWESOME!!!!!

where do you find euros? Some sort of tree? Is it a fruit? I would gladly send you five gyros, but you are probably closer to better ones than I am......

I wonder if the cashiers check guy at 7-11 can send euros for me
bluecat wrote on 10/31/2004, 11:11 PM
you can also pay with dollars if you prefer, no trouble :-).

For those who would have a clearer view of what can be done with Digital Peak Meter and Digital Peak Meter Pro, have a look at this video:

hope you'll find new creative ideas! Let me know if you gain creativity in using the plug-ins!

oops, I made a mistake when Copy/Pasting the url, here is the right one:

Hello everybody,

the digital peak meter has been updated to v1.1 :
- Added VST support
- It's now possible to record clip information

It still has the same limitation on Vegas though (need to have the GUI active to record automation due to Vega implementation). The Pro version is about to be updated too, and will be free for all registered customers who bought V1.0.

BTW did you produce anything with it? I'd be glad to see the results!

Thanks to bluecat for his active involvement here for offering this great plugin (one of the first to cross the audio/video boundary) at such a great price.

I have two questions that you may be able to answer:

1. If I put the meter Decay to 0 , what is the minimal distance between two created points in Vegas?

2. Is this minimal distance limit due to the Peak Meter or Vegas?

TIA
